grounded my VTC's......
and the engine started being real unreliable.
i grounded them 2 weeks ago, my idle was really funky (up and down, sometimes almost stalling), then anytime i put in the cutch to come to a stop, it would almost stall, and sometimes it would succeed. also, when driving, mostly on take-off, but alot of the time it's random.....the engine would sputter as if the fuel was being cut off. (and by sputter, it's more like choking on, say, a hot dog.....and while only mygreenmax would be the only one to know how that feels, i can just imagine.) anyways, i turned the car on earlier and unplugged the ground, and my idle smoothed out CONSIDERABLY.....haven't tested it on the road yet, but will keep you updated. so far this is the only case where grounding the VTC's has responded negatively....or am i wrong? feel free to ask questions or whatever, as i'm curious wtf was going on as well. |
Wow I didn't get anything like that. I didn't travel too far yet. Iv'e run around the neighborhood and let it idle in the driveway while doing other stuff to it. My car was tuned up right before I purchased it a couple of months ago (I think). It sounds alot better than it did before. Are your VTCs still at the stage where they quiet down after its hot?

no, it seemed like they were always noisy, BUT.....then again, my broken exhaust studs also sound something like clacking, so if you are listening for clacking, they deceive you.
but the effect of grounding the VTC's was horrible (for me), i didn't know if i would make it from A to B, that's how bad it was. |
maybe try resetting the ecu so it learns w/o the VTC's active. Or just give it more miles (around 100) to learn.

With my first engine, I had the same problems when I grounded my VTCs. It would idle strange, sometimes die at stop lights or when I pushed in the clutch. It seemed to run rough, too.
I just went back to "ungrounded" and let them clack. |
alex, i ran for almost 2k miles, and it never learned;x
cliff....that was my solution as well. seems fine right now, still haven't road tested it.....but as SOON as i disconnected the ground, the idle changed IMMEDIATELY. |
