VE question

What is the diff btween VE30E and VE30DE. I have a 92 se and my boy Beans has the 93 and there are some obvious differences under out hoods. Like my starter is on the top driver side. His is on the pass. Are we on the opposite sides of the E or DE thing?

I'm don't mean to sound like a smart ***, but i can't find anything about there ever being such a thing as a VE30E. All I can find that were used in the third gen is a VG30E and a VE30DE. You probably have the VE30DE, and unless your buddy's is also an se he probably has the VG30E.

im guessing he has a 93 GXE and has a VG30E

Your 92 SE has a VE30DE

Yeh I know the difference between a VE and a VG, about thirty horses amoung other things. But someone asked me if I had a VE30de or a VE30e So I was trying to find out what the differences between the 92 and 93 se motors are. I do know that my motor was swapped out because the markings on the top indicated it had 53k on it and I have 119 on the clock. What year did the starter come on the top driver side of the motor?

Nope

BEST BET: look at the plate in the engine compartment.
it says the engine model number on it.
mebe the differences between your 2 cars is the tranny (auto vs. manual)?...

maxima-junky 11-24-2007 02:24 PM

Nailed it

You nailed it. He has a stick and I have an auto.

How would I be able to tell what year my motor came from? They did swap it out cause the intake and the valve cover both have some markings on them. I was told that the junk yard marks the mileage on them when they dismantle the babies.

BenStoked 11-24-2007 03:32 PM

so far as i can tell, there isn't a way. still looking, but if im reading the fsm correctly(which i may not be:)) your block number should be pretty much the same as the original, with no year indication.
but a VE should be a VE, regardless of year.

no such thing as VE30E.....would be a sad engine with VTC problems AND only ONE cam.

maxima-junky 11-24-2007 07:56 PM

Confirmed

I thought that was the case. I was thrown a little by the difference between the manny and the auto. Are there anything like vin #s on the engine anywhere I can use to trace to vehicle of origin?

BenStoked 11-24-2007 08:17 PM

no, I do not think so.
why is this important?
since we've established its a ve30de, and a ve30e doesn't exist, I'm having difficulty understanding the question.
A little more as to your desire to know could prove helpful.
http://www.autozone.com/images/cds/g...3d801f4161.gif

this is the only place to get some info. if you can post the numbers found there...

for an auto tranny, engine should be
ELJ30GAE(x)

manual tranny
ELJ30GFE(x)

the (x) shows where the emissions are for.

U=non-California
V=California
N=Canada

there may be another number, like a serial number, and that may be how to track the original car.

(P.S. please sue me if this isn't 100% accurate, since i pulled it from a 94 maxima FSM)
