Hood masks...good or bad?

the front of my black 92 SE is moderately pitted on the tip of the hood....im thinking of getting one of those hood masks for protection (and plus i think they look nice too) I went down to a Nissan dealer, they gave me a price around $75 - for an entire front end mask (2 piece - hood, front bumper and all). I originally wanted just the hood portion but they tell me this is the only mask they make for the 3rd-Gen's; i dont mind though. Now my worry is, is that in time will the paint where the hood mask covers start to contrast with the uncovered portion of the hood? Even if i take the mask off when i wash the car, dry it then put it back on etc will the paint look different in time?

the only problem i had was when i didnt wash under it when i washed my car...it left a dirt line..but if u wash under it there shouldnt be that much of a problem. it would prolly take awhile for the paint to fade that much

Take a look at the JC Whitney online catalog. I was able to find the hood mask (not the entire front end mask) for the 3rd Gen Maxima for about $25 or so(shipping & taxes not included).

Hope that helps

Good and bad

Good for stopping your bonnet getting pitted, although it would be curtains if any grit got under it.

Bad for the look. I'm afraid it does nothing for me.

Don't get me wrong. I realise this is a cultural thing and is probably quite sensible in context. Y'all drive for hundreds of miles across gravel tracks and deserts an' stuff, and would look like a DeLorean in no time, but that wrinkly plastic they make them out of really has to go.

i also got one from j c whit. for about $25 its been good so far, but you cant go over about 95 or it will flap or tear. it looks nice though and my hood was all pitted and scratched from gravel, etc. so it was a large improvemnet.
