Need timing belt replace! Lisle IL.
My 91 Maxima se 5spd quit working on me yesterday. I don't think the timing belt broke but I do believe it slipped a link when it starts it runs very rough and only for a few seconds. I have a new belt and water pump but lack the tools and time to install them. If anyone knows how I can get this done reasonably I would greatly appreciate it. If you in the Lisle area and ca help I'd be very thankful.

make sure the belt didn't break first, then contact John (colombianmax) and see if he wants to take a crack at it. I know he has done a few.

You might want to check the Rotor screw as I've had that come out before and then the rotor can rotate a bit on the dist. shaft and cause things to be out of time and just barely keep running,..
Don't know about anybody else, but if the belt slipped a tooth,.. well I don't think it'd be running as I believe there is pretty much like "0" piston to valve clearance when these engines are out of time :( (I had one slip a tooth and it was bad news - required all new valves and a bunch of head work, and oh,. the engine would not even come close to trying to start after it happened..) just my 2 cents.. John, if you are reading this, wanna do mine too? My mechanic was suppose to start working on mine today but he is short handed and has way too much work on his hands. Plus im on vacation this week recovering from oral surgery. :D |
