My new tune up + MPG reading
 

I recently got 21 mpg pure city driving. Now it took A LOT of restraint to not rev above 3k rpm, but I managed well. I only did WOT once up to 4k, to get out of some drunk's way. I have a theory that you can play with the throttle all you want, as long as the throttle position is less than a cruising speed throttle position.

I'm psyched for a road trip i'll be taking and it's nice to know i will be getting quite a bit more than 13 mpg average i was getting. Getting up to 240ish miles to a tank was getting annoying.

I replaced the plug wires, the plugs, the fuel filter, and I have six new fuel injectors.

Should we have an MPG contest?

That MPG of 21 city was with one bald rear tire, and one doughnut on the rear. I got two new rears today so idk how it will impact mileage.

I guess I'll pump up the PSI about 4-5 to compensate for the rolling resistance of the two regular tires as opposed to a rock hard spare.

the smoother you are on the gas pedal, the better your MPG will be, especially with a narrowband o2 like our cars use. reason being, it can only read "rich" or "lean"... it doesn't know by how much, so it takes a few adjustment cycles for the ECU to adjust fuel delivery for optimum AFR.. if you are constantly on-off throttle, it's going to have a harder time fine-tuning the AFR for best MPG.

I drove to MrGone's house and back and got 31 mpg. I drove up there to swap springs and struts (stock to Eibach/Tokicos). Virtually all freeway driving, cruising around 75-85 most of the time (speed limit is 70 in Washington). I definitely think the mods like y-pipe, UDP that free up hp, actually help with mpg, too.

That was before Oregon decided to require all gas to have 10 percent ethanol. Now, I haven't done better than about 27 mpg. :(

I forgot what my mpg was (around 30), but a couple of years ago, I went to 430 miles on a tank before filling it up again and the gas light had not turned on yet. I think I had a few gallons to go.

i got 31mpg from raleigh to chicago (basically all freeway) even with E10 most of the way. that was when my ONLY mods were a spoiler, 5spd swap (VG5 tranny) and NWP spacers.. plugs and disty cap/rotor were maybe a year old at that point. on the return trip (with a VE5 tranny, axles, and hubs in teh trunk) my final tank got me 496 miles before i refueled.. probably could have gone 525 or so but i didn't want to risk it.

I remember my first VG...the best that I got with that was 28 mpg, but that was with some city driving as well (commuting to and from high school on the highway). Now, I am lucky to get 28 with the VE... :(

The placard states to up the pressure another 5 PSI or so if you're sitting at high speeds (140+kmp/h), not that I promote those speeds :P but on open roads with no traffic in sight, lets face it, everyone does it.

My old J30 was getting 780~ to the tank, premium, light on constant but 9 litres left in the tank ?? thirsty car.
VG30E Auto, tune up, no mods. Mostly back streets and mid speed roads, and a little bit of highway speeds.

Keep your car healthy and your right foot under control and a J30 Maxima drinks f**k all fuel.
