Temp Gauge
My temp gauge needle stays a little below "C" and the fans never come on. Is this an indication the ECTS is bad?

At idle only, or running?
If the thermostat isnt opening, the fans wont turn on, but as for the temperature being low, that might be temp sender unit. Turn your air con on, see if the fans come on, and see if the temp changes at all. |
When I unplug the coolant temp sensor the fan turns, so I replaced the sensor. No change. At idle it's below the C line and during hard driving it's barely above C.

He mentions the Water Temp Sender also. The service manual may have an electrical test for it, check it, or it's like a 4 dollar item.
But you actually confirmed the fans never come on after actual driving? Don't forget you live in CT so it's cold now, if I idled my car in the driveway (from cold) sometimes the fan won't come on for half an hr, then it kicks in (or never until I would be driving). |
There are two temp sensors for this car. The two prong sensor goes to the engine control module while the one prong sensor across from the two prong sensor goes to the instrument cluster.
The original instrument cluster I had on my car had some bad solder joints which would have the temp gauge stop working ocassionally. So I just swapped the cluster with a 94 and had no problems since. But I have a prob with the tach now  |
