Stop the Squeaking!!!
 

I got a 89 gxe and recently it has started this squeaking when i crank up and it will stay for a long time before eventually goin away... but it has new belts and i already tried adjusting the tensioner thingy and it got a lil bit better but its now back to were it was :mad: i sprayed some lubricant on the belt and it went away why idling and sure enough came right back as soon as i hit gas. idk know what else to do guys :confused:

Does it sound like a belt squeek, or metal on metal (pulley/tensioner)? Try and isolate the squeak then, if time and ability permit, take the belt off, and feel that pulley as it rotates. I have never done this, but just from experience with bearings in simple things, including wheel bearings on my Max, you can typically feel any inappropriate action, maybe even hear it. Though, you won't be able to turn the alternator pulley, and I am unsure about the p/s pump pulley or the a/c compressor pulley. Don't put anything on a belt to stop a squeak, it's squeaking for a reason; though the belt dressing may change the audio performance of it, it still needs to simply be replaced, but you have done that, so carry on sir. It's staring you in the face, you just have to find it.

good start, try adjusting the other ones.
one for power steering and water pump, one for alternator, one for A/C compressor.

if that doesnt work try removing belts one at a time. run car for SHORT time to help narrow down which componet is causing the problem. I took about a 2' piece of wood and used it as a stethascope to isolate a bad idler pulley one time also.

don't lube your rubber fan belts.

get new fan belts (at least the ones you sprayed lube on).
check to make sure the tensioner pulley and bearing is good...replace as needed.
clean the pulley surface areas w/ brake cleaner to remove any residual lube.
put new belt on and set correct tension.
