VE30DE, VQ30DE ADVANTAGES

ive searched but cannot find anything on this subject
basically my question is what are the advantages of either engine? is the VQ just a better platform overall?
The reason i ask is that my VE is on its way out (believe somehow a friend spuna rod) another friend has a VQ just sitting there.....can you guys tell where im going with this
I believe this motor can be swapped into our third gens if the 1st gen altima guys are doing this left and right. and if a VQ35 can be swapped in, why not a VQ30? and help would be appreciated or pointing me towards the right threads.

most of the work will be similar.
as to the advantages/disadvantages:

VE advantages
you have a VE, so you can get a new one/rebuild your current one.
direct swap for what you have
will save time/money/sanity

disadvantages:
availability
aftermarket support

VQ:
advantages:
been done, at least once
highly available
higher aftermarket support
mad props when done, and driving

disadvantages:
will NOT bolt up.
more time/money/sanity lost to a possibly never-ending project (or never finished)

My advice, source a wrecked 4th gen, with trans of your choice.
this will give all required wires you will need. I'm 99.2% sure the VE30DE ecu won't work with a VQ30DE engine.

Unless you're up for a MAJOR project, just stick another VE in your car, or buy another car and part out your 3 gen. (no, it's not what you want, but I'm trying to be practical here..)

swapping a VQ is a major PITA from all accounts. a couple people have done it, but I certainly wouldn't want to try. it will take a while- hope you have another ride for a few months!

eh, VQ35 would be a better route if you're going to go through THAT much trouble to begin with. Aaron92se did it, using a FWD-block VQ35 out of a 5.5gen... took him about 6 months or so. There's a chance, however, that a RWD-block VQ35 would have the mount locations in a more similar location to the VG/VE (closer to the pulley side) rather than the FWD VQ blocks (closer to the flywheel side and an extra mount on the timing cover), so you could leave the crossmember in the stock location instead of having to relocate it like aaron did. But as for the mounts themselves, they would have to be custom since the bolt patterns for RWD-style mounts and FWD-style mounts are pretty different.

unless u have a fetish for the VQ30 and are going to so something special with it, i think u would be wasting ur time if u just swap it in with stock cams and so on. might aswell build it cams, valve springs, oil pump etc. since people are saying the VE is "arguably" as powerful as the VQ30.

Well, you can dream, there's nothing wrong with that but accomplishing that dream is what matters.

It's just not really practical for a common man like me and you to swap in VQ in 3rd gen, unless you are really passionate about it.

so im convinced i should just source a cheap VE and rebuild it. Id really love to go turbo but i havent done enough research to know the potentials and shortcomings much less the ease and expense of a turbo application for the VE. So....i guess ill be searching over the next few weeks...any pointers in the right direction is much appreciated.

Your asking someone who last posted in this thread 8 yrs ago. Your best bet is to check and put a wtb in the 3rd gen classifieds.
