True Max(3rdgen) Enthusiast!!
I say that I'm a true Maxima Enthusiast due to the automotive purchase I made as my daily driver appose to using my Baby(Max) for work. I'm retiring my '93 Sentra (256,000), not because she doesn't run but cause the body is corroded and suspension is worn bad. I went out and copped a 2000 Honda Prelude SH as my DD/work vehicle. I drive about 80 miles a day during work, not including any other driving I might do with the auto. I was not willing to put those miles on my Bytch(Max)!! I do own a Volvo 850 but it's really for the wife/kids...I was gonna try and get an Audi S4 and then use my Max for work but I just couldn't do it. I still see the potential vision in my mind when I look at her, she is a beautiful ride as is but she's gonna be so much more when I'm finished with her. Nissan is weekend cruiser and the Honda is the work horse, even if the honda is a nice ride herself.

I think we are enthusiasts for different reasons. Some of us justify this by coming here and sharing what we know about these cars after years of owning and maintaining them. I'm with the crowd that own Maxima's exclusively and not just terd gen. Some of you should try the 5.5 and later gens. What the 3rd gen gets is the lion share of my time and money since it's my restoration project. I drive the VE everyday and it's got a spare engine, new tranny, axles, suspension with half the BBK installed (should be done with that today) so I don't care about mileage.

I could have got a 5.5gen and thougjt bout it but either max would end up costing too much dough in gas at work. My 3rdgem is a project for me and if I got a 5.5gen I might be more into the 5.5, in short, can't do both.

I just wanted to that I actually had a 4thgen not long ago but I kept my 3rdgen instead. I'm feelin' the Titanium Edition 5.5, did Nissan offer any other trims for the 5.5 that I never heard of?

Augustus which BBK are you doing? Cobra rotors and TTZ calipers? :naughty:

yeah i cant see myself gettin rid of my 3rd Gem and i spelled it right i was just lookin at a Gs300 with only 85,000 on the clock and its priced right but i cant get rid of it,she brought my first born son home from the hospital after a blizzard with no problems.Another thing of beauty is that, lil man knows his daddy's car.from day one its been like that, so in the end props to nissan for making a timeless classic, and props to warpspeed magnaflow and flowmaster for helping me raise a car enthusiast

I don't believe I ever felt 80-plus-miles-per-day comfortable in the 5th gen 'lude I drove. seat wouldn't quite do it for me (needed more knee support). if you're fine with it, it's a good purchase.
Don't be surprised if you start modding it. they're fun, handle pretty well (for a fwd 4-banger), and cheap to get good parts for. Unfortunately, we only got 155whp out of it with cai, fidanza fw, DC header, greddy cat-back, and a few other bpu. didn't feel like only 155, but for a dd/beater, it'd be great gtfo-the-way power. |
I would say a true Maxima enthusiast would have bought a 4th or 5th gen Maxima for a DD instead of a Ricer...errr...Honda. If you were considering an Audi S4, the mpg would be as good or better with a well maintained Maxima. I get 30 mpg with my 3rd gen.
If they made a 5.5 gen station wagon, I would be up on that. Even better if it were AWD. Sadly, Nissan no longer makes any kind of station wagon, so I had to buy an AWD BMW wagon. I guess I am not much of a Maxima enthusiast. |

I miss my old 89 Charcoal Pearl GXE, I was the original owner of that thing. My co worker now has it and still rolls it to this day from time to time, it now has 268k original motor. When I sold it to her it had 206k, the only thing wrong was that it had hole in the exhaust and sounded like some of these cars with exhaust on them....hehe. She has since fixed that, now when I hear it I'm like danggg.

Shoot those things handle better than 99% of the stock FWD cars out there, its a no wonder that it got many top handling acllamaids and best handling under 30k with C/D back in the day.

A week ago while driving to work in my 4th gen I started to think if my dad sold my 3rd without me knowing or if something happened to it and I started to cry!!
Serious!! I would never give up my 3rd gen maxima for any kind of money. |

She handles great(all wheel steering helps), she can move for a N/A 4, I was looking at the Sentra SE-R but guy wanted too much for Sentra SE-R or not.

I was just screwing around.
It doesn't matter what other cars you have. If you have one Maxima and love it, that's all that matters. Some people don't even have a Maxima any more and really miss theirs. I am not much for Hondas, though, but I guess everyone has their preferences. I like Toyotas when it comes to cheap gas sippers. I had an 88 Celica convertible that I drove the crap out of. I had a 90 mile commute each way for like 8 months and I also visited my girlfriend (now my wife) several times a week for a couple of years and it was about 200 miles round trip. Damn, I miss gas being around $1 a gallon! |
