obx headers and y pipe
 

I'm sure there's a fair bit of info. On this topic but I was just curious are the obx headers worth the money or would it be better off to just stick with the stock manifolds with custom y pipe for the 3rd Gen vg?

I think there are fitment issues with those but i may be wrong. Just get a Warpspeed Y-pipe if they are still available.

I had a custom y pipe done at a specialty exhaust shop. Took him a few hours but he was able to duplicate it. From what i see in the pics. The y pipe comes with the headers so if i were to go with the obx it might make sense to use the stainless y pipe that comes with it being there's flanges where i had my exhaust done with no flanges except where it bolts up to the manifolds.

You got options. MES for the y-pipe or Warpspeed (who I have). OBX headers or Pacesetter. Yeah everyone knocks Pacesetter but I've seen Cmax03's and I have to say I have no complaints.

Like I mentioned I have a y pipe so I would maybe just do the headers but from what I see it comes as a set with the y pipe and if that's the case I would probably use what comes with the set. I'm curious if it's worth the money? The stainless looks nice but other than that are they any better than stock function wise? I've heard good things and not so good things about fitment issues.

FYI the Warpspeed pipe is still available, I just ordered one today. I have a nice 92 SE and the exhaust appears factory, so I ordered the y-pipe along with a high flow cat. $360.00 shipped I believe

The Pacesetters or OBX are worth the money for what it does for the VG30... I would do the OBX since they're SS and modify them to fit properly by incorporating a flex section and keeping only the manifold to ypipe (ball/socket flanges) and getting rid of the horizontal ball/socket flange, install a O2 sensor bung and a 12-18 flex section before the cat and you're good to go....

Thanks CMax, If im understanding correctly keep the front and back manifold flanges and cut and weld at the back of the ypipe deleting that flange?

Thanks, glad to see they are still available. Just wasnt sure since ive had my y-pipe coming up 10 years if i recall?

Looks good. Does the y pipe that comes with the obx headers give you any fitment issues and does it give enough clearance without touching the oil pan. The custom y pipe i have on it now just touches the oil pan which im a little concerned about otherwise the exhaust guy did a pretty good job on it. Im debating on whether or not to just have him make me another fixing that issue, getting a warpspeed ypipe or using the one that comes with the headers. On your first pic. where did you put the o2 bung? between the flange and the flex or before the flex section.

No I have Pacesetters which OBX copied too the Tee! Your welder screwed up! The Ball/Socket flanges are great cause if you trash the springs and long bolts, and substitute them with shorter SS bolts the flange is bulletproof/leakproof....and can be somewhat stationary and very adjustable! No contact with the oilpan on mine just really close to the Rack and pinion assy which I wrapped with exhaust wrap as well as shaved down my rear 3-bolt flange on one side....

My exhaust is pipe from front to back with no flanges except at the manifold so if i go with the obx headers i'll use the flanges that come with it exept the back where i see it looks like you cut and put your own flange there.
