This is that Brian told me today (by E-Mail) when I told him that I have 15 people so far: (and many on the way)

Scott,
Thank you for your, and Maxima.org's, interest in our euro style tail lights. We have acknowledged the desire Maxima owners have, and will address it when we can. We are going down a list of popularity based on the activity we have had on our previous sales and market analysis. It takes 1000 sales to even offset tooling costs moderately, so we have to go with the most efficient use of our tooling investments. Clogging our e-mails, as Maxima.org. has done, will not get your application done any faster so please advise your group of our acknowledgement of your interest and readiness to buy the euro style tails as soon as they are ready to be shipped. Thanks for your interest and I look forward to hearing from you. I will e-mail you to let you know when we have an order available for your maximas.
BrianT@4apc.net

You know what this means? This means we did it! They're going to make them! WooHoo!!!!

-Scott

...oh yeah, and don't e-mail them anymore about these. As Brian said (above) he doesn't want us sending him "clogging" e-mails. They're making them WOOHOO!!

Canuck Nov 13, 2000 03:13 PM

I e-mailed them a while back with no response. I have also been e-mailing other companies to see what they have to say. In the e-mail, he really did say they were going to make them, or when they would, so I was wondering if you really think they will?

I honestly think that they will, but he didn't say how soon, just that they were going to. Price: Around $200. SO it could be as soon as a month or maybe as long as a year (or more). Who knows? I shold call or e-mail him and ask him about it. -Scott

Canuck Nov 13, 2000 03:19 PM

are they making a center piece? or are we on our own with that?. If not, i think i'll get another center piece amd paint it. What about you?

Ummm...I never asked him about the center piece...If you want, ask Brian (the e-mail is on the 1st post up top) see if they will make them too? Don't pust him though. It's good that we at least know that they are going to make them. Center piece? Don't know. I kinda like my center piece the way it is. That's just my opinion though.

That's the idea. The "Altezza" style tails are the ones that are OEM on the Lexus IS300 (or in Japan, deemed the "Alteza". Hmmm, I wonder where the name for those tail lights were derived from?

Here is a photoshopped 4th generation max. Ours should look somewhat similar to that.

I highly doubt they'll make the clears for maximas, did you read the part about needing 1000 orders to offset the TOOLING itself, that's not even to turn a profit. 1000 is a LOT of people, I can get us indiglo gauges if we can get 30 sales a MONTH, and thats still a lot :(

that by no means says they're in production.. that means they want you to stop bothering them. "We will get to your application when we can."
"Clogging our e-mails [snip] will not get your application done any faster so please advise your group ... I will e-mail you to let you know when we have an order available for your maximas."

did you see the point about the 1000 orders to make the production worthwhile? yeah, that's right.. 1000. the parts required to make the lights on existing production machines are VERY expensive (sometimes $100,000 per machine, with dozens of machines involved) just to make a few lights, let alone a full production run.

it's no small operation to pump out a set of 40 or 50 lights.. these aren't (can't be) made by hand either. If they were, they'd be MUCH MUCH more. there's a very small chance APC will make a profit off these, which is what they're in business for. they've got 15 requests? Bah. they need 1000 just to break even.. that's a loooong way from 15..
say if you get 800 or 900 people to commit to buying them, then send them ONE email with a list of all the names, then they might do soemthing.. as of now they're basically saying "Buzz off, kid. Maxima is on the list, but Civics, Accords and Integras come first because we can make more money."

It's a business thing. I would do the same if I were making them. if you had a chance to spend $500,000 in equipment to sell 500 parts or 10,000 parts, which would you choose?

ryan Nov 14, 2000 12:27 PM

It would be nice if companies would make stuff for the max still, but you have to admit 89-94 Max's are falling off the face of the earth. Some of our cars are 11 years old and most people buy them because they don't like walking to work. I mean, if you could afford a better performing newer car than the Max, would you buy the max? Most people would say no and the manufacturers know this. Even back in it's days of glory, the aftermarket for the Max was practically nonexistent, so why would these companies start making parts for them now? It's just Economics man, it sucks, but that's the way the US and the rest of the world runs. This guy wants $200K just to cover costs! Even if you got 50 people to buy them or at least say they would, you'd still need $150K to start production. Sorry, but I don't see it happening. At this stage of the cars life, you could try rigging some new lights on there like the hot roders.
You have to admire all those guys that build the hot rods out of 30's and 40's models cars b/c they usually make most of the things that go into those cars. I love those things!

James92SE Nov 14, 2000 02:07 PM

well i'm gonna stay optimistic for now. if they dont make them they dont make them. you guys are right, it doesnt actually say that they're gonna make them. but he does imply that they are. at least its getting consideration and hopefully they'll make them. well gotta go, first game of the season tonight, time to go score 30 points.:)

ryan Nov 14, 2000 06:44 PM

Now if I could think of a way to make some altezza tails my self or if i could find a way to convert some other ones to work for my car then I wouldn't really mind if APC or any other brand made them for our car but I don't know if I'm that mecanical unless i had an example... I don't know I'll have to try to do something because i hate the max's tail lights to much red.. UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah if you had the time and tools, you could custom build a pair (Altezza's or just clears) and you could see what happens? If no one could build them, you could make them yourself...sell them, and make $$$$!!!

ryan Nov 14, 2000 07:14 PM

I really wouldn't know the first thing about starting on that though, but if some one had an idea i would like to hear it!!!!!!!!!

James92SE Nov 14, 2000 08:27 PM

yeah i tried to make clear tails by breaking all the red out. it has to be done on the 89-91's tails though. and it didnt look too good, so i didnt put it on. trickin-it made the clear tails with plexiglass, but i havent gotten any info from him about it. i was gonna do it, but i couldnt get the lens out and didnt want to break it. he needs to e-mail me back so i can see how he did it.

James92SE Nov 14, 2000 08:37 PM

FAST4EN Nov 14, 2000 08:47 PM

from that picture, it's kinda hard to tell that they're clear. I guess that they look "ok" but I really don't like them from the looks of that pict.

block Nov 14, 2000 10:12 PM

i kind of like them I remember i liked them on vitaly's car. they look cool.

Bucktown Nov 15, 2000 09:53 AM

james, just go to home depot and rent a heat gun. they only cost like $10 for an entire day.

Matt93SE Nov 15, 2000 10:11 AM

FroMan Nov 15, 2000 01:27 PM
