window problem
1994 maxima gxe. around 120k miles
got in the car, closed the door and heard a loud clank like something broke. looked around but could see nothing wrong. started the car and pulled out of the garage. went to lower the drivers side window and the window just dropped.
when i press the window button up or down i can hear the window motor running but nothing happens.
any ideas what happened?
thanks

Most likely the window regulator broke. The window regulator is like an elevator that moves the glass up and down. A much less likely possibility is that the bolts that hold the glass onto the regulator loosened and fell out.
You will have to have to remove the inside trim panel from the door and look inside to see exactly what has happened.
If it is the regulator, you can buy the regulator with ($110) or without ($35) the electric motor.

You know, I didn't want to do my window regulator.
You should see the fear in the mechanic's face when I asked him how much to replace it.
A coworker of mine said he rather replace engines than the regulator.

I have a 1994 with about the same miles and have been through many window regulators over the years. I had a mechanic do the first one at $200+, then I learned to do it myself and can now do it in 20 - 30 minutes tops.
Just have confidence and follow these genius instructions that an extremely cool person was nice enough to take the time to post long ago:
