1993 se has a weird problem where whenever I turn on the car the radio displays normally (the radio station, fm light, etc.) but VERYYYYYY little to no noise comes out of the speakers. That is, until I press play on the cassette player it tries to play for 5 seconds with the little tape light (just a green dot) then shuts off the radio. When I press power on on the headunit, after it shuts off, the speakers play at normal volume. When I turn the key once just to turn on the radio, it does this. Then when I fully turn on the car I have to press play again, wait 5 seconds again, then power on. It’s really not a huge deal because at least it plays but it’s just annoying to keep having to do all that. Any ideas of what I can do besides replace the headunit because I know about the whole 1ohm and the rewiring that would be required if I got an after market headunit and speakers and I’d rather just stick with the stock headunit and these speakers because they still sound great with a lot of bass.
You can replace the head unit with an aftermarket radio and still use the Bose speakers. You have to get a line level adaptor so that the aftermarket radio doesn't over drive the 1 ohm speakers.
I appreciate the response. I was half expecting to get a “get a new headunit” from somebody. It was bugging me so much I took the headunit apart and found that the belt for the cassette player was stretched since it didn’t fit tightly in any position I put it in. I took it out put it back together now my radio starts right up whenever I get back in the car. I just can’t use the cassette player now definitely but idc I have a Bluetooth fm transmitter which charges my phone too
Installing another Bose head unit doesn't make any sense. You are replacing a 25 year old head unit with another 25 year old head unit. What kind of life expectancy do you think you will get from it? And let's not mention that the thing doesn't have all the nice features that a $150 aftermarket unit will have - bluetooth, hands free phone, USB and so much more.

I'd have to agree with Dennis, The time of cassettes is long gone and I'm sure I can speak for most of us when I say they're not missed either eating tapes and even though its a Bose head unit the bottom of the line aftermarket deck is probably better than a 25 yr old Bose but they were built to last and nothing against Bose.If you need or are interested in a deck I have a nice pioneer single din with aux and usb so you can just put all your tunes on a flash drive with a couple hundred or more songs and call it a day. Even a decent set of aftermarket speakers are reasonable and won't break the bank.
Well like I said the stock speakers and headunit still work so I don’t remember mentioning anything about replacing it with another bose unit jerkoff. And I just also said I have a Bluetooth fm transmitter that works just fine so why would I buy a another headunit Just to play music on a flash drive and have to rewire the whole system just for that ?
Not a very nice way to speak to your elders that were just trying to help. Also Dennis just stated that the pics were a reference and that they were from a 2000 but were similar to the 3rd gen. We were just giving some logical suggestions. I only suggested an affordable deck with a flash drive for better covenience that i could have sold cheap or even have given to a fellow member being i have no use for it but i guess that might not work downloading music off a comodore 64. Good luck with that 25 yr old Bose and fm transmitter though hopefully you get it figured out o.k and get your setup working to your satisfaction.
