Do you have to remove intake manifold to change spark plugs?

I would look myself, but the 1992 Maxima is at the shop. Do you have to remove the intake manifold to change the 3 spark plugs on the back side of the engine? The shop wants $180 to do it and I told them I would do it myself, but now that I think of it, if the whole intake manifold has to come off, that may be more of a job than I want to tackle. I do know that they are replacing the #4 Fuel Injector as it is bad, would that require the intake manifold to be removed as well? If so, maybe they will cut me a deal on the 3 spark plugs since they already have the manifold removed. Thanks in advance!!

No you shouldn't need to remove the intake and yes you could do it yourself. Just be careful not to snap a plug or drop anything into the cylinder once you remove the old one. If you have an air compressor just blow out any debris before you pull the plugs. Why are you only changing 3? You may aswell just do all 6. If your only focusing on those 3 cylinders due to a misfire and changing the plugs doesn't help chances are you have a bad injector or a couple which the 3rd gens are notorious for given the age. For the injectors you will need to remove the intake manifold though and replace the gasket and even if it were one or more injectors your best off to do them all for piece of mind provided your not on too tight of a budget. If you test the resistance you can tell which injectors are good or bad. They should be between 10-14 ohm.

no, the intake doesnt have to come off. $180 estimate even if the intake had to come off is ridiculously low. if you do everything yourself including spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, spark plug wires, and fuel filter it should be under $120 in parts and take under 1hr of time

They confused 3d gen with 6, 5 and maybe 4th gens, where intake has to come off.
And no one would do higher gen for $180 where I live. It takes all day to change plugs on VQ engines.

Wow do we not look under our hoods? How could someone tell you something and you haven't tried taking a look at your engine or even in a manual!
