Acquired a 93 SE 5spd

Hi everyone, I just acquire another maxima in my garage now have 87, 93, 01 Maxima SE models. I am familiar with the troublesome VE30DE engine, which I am prepared to deal with since the car has 215k miles I got it from an auction. The one thing I have been wondering about the spoiler, that needs some paint work however I've noticed it seem to be made of foam, I thought they were always been some kind of plastic, is there a best way to prep for paint job since I'll be doing it. I already removed it and the mounting on the end are rusted out, kind of surprising especially the spoiler is not plastic.

Congrats on your new purchase! I've not seen a 3rd gen in a looooong time. Pics?

Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about paint/body work so I can't offer any help there.

if you want to keep the car then look to see if there's an aftermarket option that looks like the factory one. the ends tends to rust out and the spoiler will lift at the ends.
if you wish to try and save the stock one then i would epoxy the ends or something. scuff it and paint with some flex mixed in the clear.

In my 20 years owning my 3rd gen Maximas, I bought 3 spoilers. Like DanNY stated, the metal ends rust. Luckily, the spoiler still available from the dealership at $370. Light not included though. I bought 1 because I couldn’t fix the one on my 1990 SE, it was in very bad shape.
You might get it cheaper and faster in the DWF area since the Nissan parts south district warehouse is there.

Jordez what dealership did you go to? (Sorry it’s been forever since I’ve been on here) I know they have fiberglass replacements. Not OEM direct replacement but it works.

For the love of all things holy, save your money and try and repair what you have! I had the same problem but didn't have the spoiler to begin with. I wasted my time and money on aftermarket spoilers on two separate occasions only to send them back because they didn't work. The fiberglass replacements they sent were simply standard spoilers that were meant for any car. Not only that but they came warped and they would never perfectly fit the trunk lid.
I ended up buying a pretty ****ty but intact original off of ebay from Compton, CA. of all places ($180). Take your spoiler, cut out the rusty bits and plastic clips and try to repair it. I used cement crack filler and it worked like a dream. It took a week or two to dry but after that I used some heavy duty 3M adhesive to put it back on the lid and it's mint.
This is where I got the idea:

If I can find some pictures of the stuff curing I'll post them, but this is what I have for now, excuse the weird captions, my friends and I are a bit weird.

(Oh, and the cement filler method survived a winter under a tarp up here in Minnesota so if that doesn't tell you it works well then I'm not sure what does!)

the car is old...no one is making aftermarket parts for the car anymore.

BTW the stillen type 2 fits perfectly but it's NLA

Maximo18,

i bought my brand new spanking OEM spoiler out of Mossy Nissan in Houston about 1 year ago. They are still abeliable, just a little expensive but save me the hassle with other non OEM brands. I decided to make that investment because I’m keeping my maximas until I die and hopefully I get another 20 to 30 years out that expensive spoiler. Is worth it to me.

I'll take a pic of the car, still working on it, since that infamous clacking noise of the VTC. Only thing I am trying to do is keep it running but it dies out after it warms up 15 minutes and it dies out and when I try to keep the throttle open it dies. Is it the MAF sensor issue? It's like it was running out of gas. Any pointers or experience that could help me point the way.

Yougottabekiddingme!
Does the telescoping antenna work? I still remember the sound and feeling of it extending and retracting when I turned the ignition off.
