a question for anyone who's replaced the front speakers w/ somethng bigger
what size speaker did you put in there, and how much leeway did you have when putting it in? thanks :)
edit: i've got the active speaker system :P |
You can dremmel out the bose pods to 5.25
I am currently in the process of replacing my Bose grills with a piece of reinforced hardboard that will be flush with the rest of the door panel with 6.5s top mounted. to the panel |
Hey Patrick, Is your stock setup still for sale? Mail me if so. ecumoakley1@aol.com

I have 6.75"s at all four corners :D The install really isn't any harder than 6.5"s, but since I needed 6.75"s for the back I figured why not get them for the front too. Another guy on here has 6x9"s in the front but he said it involved entirely too much work and wasn't worth the hassle. In my opinion just get something bigger than 5.25"s and you'll be happy. Watch out for the depth of the speaker also. Take your door off and take some measurements and you'll see what fits and what doesn't.

i cut out the pods in front and fit 6.5's in the bose enclosures. then i cut the brackets behind the mesh speaker grill and you can see the red speakers better :) i have pics if anyone wants em. . ..

I made some crappy little plywood enclosures really easily for some pioneer 4x6s
pics on my webpage in the how-to section http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gte671n/mymax.html also have pics on there of some really nice homemade ones from John Van de Pol (John VdP or something like that on here). He did a really nice job with plywood I dont have any measurements, but you can just measure the stock pods and figure it out and now I put the BOSE back in if I want to sell the car :) |
thanks yall. i think i'm going to get 6.5" components... now I just got to decide which ones... :)

i put some polk 5x7 in the front. first, i did a real hack job and just dremeled out the factory pods. the sound was pretty bad like this. i started building some nice pods out of mdf. they are a hassle to make and are time consuming. they fit nicely behind the door panel and i made them so the speaker is angle more toward your ears. the pods are completely sealed.

i mangled my stock pods to fit the 6.5's. i had active speaker system too, check out my cardomain page to see how it looks, ill try to load a pic of what the pods looked like. IT doesnt sound that great for bass, but thats why i have a sub :)

I have pictures of the mounting plates I am selling, I will post those up tomarrow.
