Car won't start: Ignition Problem (Kinda Long)
Hey guys,
I had this problem twice already, and I am not looking forward to have another one. Also, this problems happen intermitently (not all the time), and I narrow down the problem to either the ignition coil or the ignition mechanism on the steering wheel coulumn. In the event when the car won't start, it does not give any "sound". It just keeps on beeping (as if you were still in ACC position) and no cranking whatsoever. In the first event, I just left the car sit for about 2 hours, and then on my first try, it started fine. It's been about 3 weeks now, and it just happened this afternoon. I was refueling at a local gas station and the car did not start after I finished refueling. Then, I turn the steering wheel to the "lock" position (slightly to the left) and tried to start the car up (and I need to "unlock" the steering wheel), and guess what? The car starts right up! So, my question is, does anybody has similar problems? If so, please give me your input to remedy this problem. Also, I was thinking it might be the ignition module inside the steering wheel that is acting up, and not the coils. However, how do I know if the coils are the cause? And which one? I just don't want to have this problem when I am about to go to the airport to catch a plane......or to rush somebody to the hospital..and such. Thank you guys! |
Wish I could help Armand, but that's way above me :(

i had a similar prob, it seems to have been the starter itself
it would not start for the life of me and then miraculously, it would just start up. i think the solenoid was stuck. |
Guys...
Thanks for replying.......
Kyle, thanks for your reply though...:)...as you might have guessed this is also above me.....hehehehhee..... Miasma, starter solenoid, eh? I am sorry for being ignorant, but where is the solenoid thing? I suspect the component at fault is at the steering wheel coulumn rather than in the engine bay. That's why I mentioned coils failure is highly unlikely. I am pretty "blind" to know about starters component...but if you could be more descriptive, I would really appreciate it. I remember seeing a similar post about 2 months back and I failed to save it.....:( |
the starter has a little gear that pops in and out to engage the gear, whey you engage the starter, the gear pops out and starts spinning, if the starter gear does not pop out, then the solenoid is stuck, sometimes jiggling your keys is all it takes to 'unstuck' the solenoid.
