Strange Noise upon starting car

Today, and for the last little while, when I start my car just as it starts, there is a grumbling noise that comes from the engine. It does not do this every time so I can't look at the engine to find out where it is comeing from. It only lasts about 2-3 seconds, and sounds like a diesel engine. Loud and slow cycles, but the engine is running, and the clutch is disengaged, and the rpms are at normal idle speed. I am really confused about this, any help would be great. Thanks

What brand of oil filter are you using?

Stock Nissan filter

Stock filter, but what does that have to do with it?

I have the same knocking noise when cold starting my car, esp. after it's been sitting over a day. Sounds like a diesel for a few seconds. I use Nissan filters also and 0-30 Mobil 1 oil. I'm wondering if I should try 5-30 oil. What weight do you use?

I have the same strange sound you are talking about. Mine however sounds like a chain linked fence closing when starting cold. I am beginning to think it is my starter. I await some more suggestions from you guys.
