Anyone have 235-40-17's ?
Hey i was woundering if any of yall with 17s had 235 40 17 Tires?
If so , any problems... or any pics on how they look , thanks -ChRi§ |
I have seen several posts with that tire size...shorter sidewall than the 45 I have by a bit and should look okay but since it is a bit shorter than "recommended, using word loosely" the ride will suffer a bit but handling will be good.

Here's my take on the whole thing. My stock rims were the SE-L 16's. I wanted to put 18's on so the guy at the Tire Rack said that a 235/40/18 would give me the same rolling diameter as stock. If you go with the same sidewall height on 17 inch rims its going to make your car all screwy. You will sit a little bit lower but our already huge wheel/fender gap will be even bigger. Plus you will get bad gas mileage as you will have to have higher RPM's to go the same speed as stock. Of course this is all dependent on my mechanical knowledge and the information given to me by the guy at Tire Rack so take it for what its worth. But I think most of the guys on the orgy that have 17's are usually running 235/45/17's.

Yeah the reason i asked is becuase i wanted to put 40's on there and slam the hell out of my max, and was woundering if it was going to be alright....

Your call...not sure exactly what you mean by slamming it that much? Coilovers or air-ride? Anyway you would be fine with the 235/40 if you like but the speedo and revs are going to be off a bit.

I have 235-40-17 because I got an incredible deal on the tires. Your gas mileage will not suffer at all. The 6% tach error will not affect it. Say you run a true 70mph at 3000rpms. With 6% shorter tires, you will be running a true 70mph at like 3180 rpms... the difference is negligable.
Performance wise, handling will be slightly improved (turn in, etc) but the ride will be harsher. Your acceleration will improve slightly, but your to speed will drop (in case you like doing thos 140mph highway runs.) the sidewall height difference is probably on the order of 1/4 inch, you wont be able to tell a difference, your wheelgap will not be noticeably larger unless you are worried about millimeters (literally). |
