Mod I don't see too often

Does anyone have their wheels pushed out to the sides on their Max? I don't even know what the correct termanology for it is, but I saw one the other day on the highway and I haven't seen too many on this site, if anybody has their wheels pushed out let's see some pictures please. Thanks

 ......that is not a mod. That is a poor attempt to make any vehicle look good or whatever. Thats one of the worst thing to do to a car. Just as bad as a 5 foot spoiler, and eleventy million stickers...

I never knew using the incorrect offset was considered a "mod" these days.

Freedog Aug 18, 2002 12:01 PM

I've heard it called skateboard style. I think it's ugly but hey, I'm sure those guys think our stuff is ugly too.

You guys all need to calm the **ck down. First of all, pick up a dictionary, look up the word modify, realize what a mod is, then respond to my thread. If you want to post your own thread about how you don't like the look this mod, go for it. I didn't even say what I thought of it, so that again proves your ignorance to assume that I was giving this mod my thumbs up. All I wanted to see was some pictures. I'm not talking to all of you either, just a certain few. metalic97 kinda like that but larger wheels, and chrome rims, thanks though.

metallic97gxe Aug 18, 2002 02:10 PM

ooh you mean w/nice 18" or 19" rims filling the fender wells up in a good way....

Yeah, some 18 or 19 inch chrome that are just pushed out to the side a bit, it did look pretty good on the 98 max I saw on the highway.

metallic97gxe Aug 18, 2002 02:21 PM

now that would look good but scrubbing might be a problem...

maybe a 18 x 8.5-9 245-255 size...

with the right offset......

I'm glad someone knows what I'm talkin about. Not pushed out a huge amount, but a little bit looks good. Nice car by the way man.

you can get that look (where you tires stick out past the fenders) by simply adding some axel extenders.

mass_maxx Aug 18, 2002 08:32 PM

The name for the wheels past the fenders is called "Hammers" it started with the old 64 impalas on the west coast. They got really wide rims, skinny tires, stretch the tires, and put wheel spacers. I am really into lowriders too if you can't tell. Personally, it takes the style and streamline out of the Max. That is my two cents. Whatever floats your boat.

NYCe MaXiMa Aug 18, 2002 09:22 PM

if you want that look to make your wheels stick out like crazy, you can either buy some wheels with the same bolt pattern but with a smaller offset, or go to your local pepboys or autozone or some other similar store and buy a bunch of those cheap wheel spacers. I got some from there when I bought wheels for my 3rd gen and the inside of the tire rubbed agaist the strut housing in the back.. It did push the wheel out a little bit..

Maybe you're the one that needs "to calm the **ck down".

If you have explained better in your initial post what you were looking for, you wouldn't have gotten such different responses.

NyC97Max Aug 19, 2002 03:15 AM

at first EVERYONE thought u were talking about like what some people do on isuzu's or jeep wranglers sumtimes, with the rims sticking out where half the rim is past the fender, i know people in NYC see that being done and yes no offense but it is usually spanish people doing it to cheap cars, but everyone has their own flava...but now i can see you just want sumthing WIDE..like how the old SL500 was with the back tires...like just a 8.5-9 width, slightly past the fenderwall right? like barely an inch or two?? thats possible, sumtimes the wideness might look good but i have mixed thoughts in my head of how it can either be really bad looking or pretty ok

purmax Aug 19, 2002 08:33 AM

In LA 2 inches is the most it can stick out, after that it's illegal
