i dont think it will look nasty and old. all those cars in the early 90's were pretty boxy and not good looking, but people liked them cuz thats what was in. u may say the same thign might happen, but if they drastically change the body styling of most cars i think it will be for the worst in most cases. when i see like mid to late 2000 models i think they look horrible, and most will agree with (u know that whole ugly futeristic thing)

I remember Edmunds car review hated the 4th Gen Maxima styling, especially 95-96s. They called it too conservative, and made a good point that it just didn't have an aggressive stance from any angle, whether the car was moving or not.

Anyway, I think that the 4th Gen styling is more "in' than previous years. All of the cars nowadays are becoming roundish, curvy, and smooth, which are all traits of a 4th Gen. So I'll give it a few more years before I can start calling it "old."

Honesty.. I believe that the 97-99.5 will look older faster then the 95-96 because on the styling of the 2000-2002 models. If you were to compare the 00 to the 97 and to the 95 you will see the 00 has a similar front to the 95 vs the 97.
IMHO!

i would think otherwise than cbr2...i think the 97-99 will look new but the 95-96 might become older looking...the 97-99 have the newer looking clear cut headlights which all new cars are gonna have for a long time...the taillights on the 97-99 look cleaner and better than the 95...the styling and appearance of the 97-99 looks better, smoother and newer...does the 97-99 paint look better sumtimes than the 95-96? or is it just cuz the 95-96 paint is obviously older?? or is just my wierd eyes? the stock 16" rims makes a difference in newer looking too..i mean the 95-96 still look great too but the 95 looks more aggressive while the 97-99 looks more stylish, in the end it just can be said that all the 4th gens look great..i sumtimes wonder if they will ever start looking old too, but i highly doubt it, not atleast in the next 3 years in my opinion

I think our 4t gens are already starting to look old!!
But my max is turning into a classic, so it donesnt matter. haha

IMO, there is an "ugly" old, and "timeless" old. Timeless pieces of cars are 90+ 300Z, Porshce 911, GS400, M3, etc...IMO...

These cars, no matter how old they are, will always look good. A 4th gen maxima belongs in this class.

Give it 2 years. You may not realize it because you own it (like the Accord owners), but in 2 years when there are 2 Gens newer than ours and every car is extremely futuristic-looking (G35, 350Z) then you will realize ours is old. Not to say it won't look good.

I'm personally one of those guys that gets stuck in the past as far as my opinion on car styling goes. For me, the 90-96 time period in general offered a lot more choices of well-styled cars than today's cars. I never really get tired of the way a car looks. If I like it, then I like it. If I don't, then I don't. Usually it seems to me people that change their views as time goes along usually do so under the influence of someone else, or they're trying to convince themselves of something too hard.

BTW, I never really liked the styling on the 4th gens. I'm neutral on it. 3rd-gen was the pinnacle of styling in a maxima in my eyes.

I'm not trying to flame you, In fact I agree with you in some of your points, but because of the plastic clear headlights on the 97+ I would believe that the 97 will look older quicker in that aspect because of them fading, the 95-96 has glass headlights.

I think the 4th gen already looks old. I dont think any car these days still use bumper turn signals anymore. Its all integrated into the headlight. The car is too bubblyish as well like anything from the mid 90s. Oh yea and new car styling is sharply defined angles and geometric shapes. Everything from the new altima, the 03 accords, the new toyotas, even on the domestic and european sides. I think the mercury cougar was one of the first.

No offense but the 95-96's are flat out ugly. From the prismatic headlights, to the wierd shaped bumpers and openings, to the humongous crease in the rear hood to the fat tail lights. Its even worse with the body kit and the pontiac grilles.

And I think the 97s kind of look like the new mustangs, I think I'll stick to a 96.

I never could find myself liking a 4th gen Max. I loved the powertrain though, so I ended getting a 96 I30t 5spd.

For people that don't know much about Maximas, when I tell them mine's a '99, they won't believe me and think it's at least a 2001. My mom is asking me to look for a 99 for her, cause she hated the looks of 2000+. And honestly, there are so many 2k2 SE in my town with not-so-attractive people driving them, I would never get a 2k2 SE. Personally, I'm getting tired of looking at my car and want a change, and I don't like 2000+ Max, so got my name on the list for a Mini Cooper S instead!

You sure seem to like 5th gen wheels! I do agree with you, people driving older Maxes are generally younger, prettier and poorer.

ya..... i have a 95, but all mah friends first think it's not taht old. it's hard to belive that mah car is actually 7 yrs old, but nobody else realizes. tru, i think within the next couple yrs, our cars will look old, but i think it'll take longer for our cars to look old than other cars of the same years. imagine 6th gens and g35s driving around, that will be the day our cars will look old.

What it pretty much comes down to is the individual and their personal preference. People appreciate different things when it comes to asthetics. I think the 5th Generation looks great, I love my 4th gen car, and I honestly still think my friend's '94 (3rd gen) is a really attractive car - Nissan has done a fine job on styling for many years now (if not, nobody would be buying them). I think the Maxima has always expressed Elegance, and in the 3rd & 4th gen a subtle agressiveness that leaves it quite a sleeper. The 5th gen is much more agressive, esp. with the 2k2/3 headlights.

Eventually all cars go out of style a little bit, it's inevitable. Some cars just stay in style longer and some never lose that good look - they become Timeless, as hokiemax said. Will the max be one of them? Only time will tell.

And the 95/96 taillights aren't fat, it's the 97+ that are upside down.

I must be the only one who actually likes the 95-96 styling better than the 97-99. I think its much more aggressive, especially from the front. Everyone always says the 97-99s look better and every time I see one I stare at it a while, but just don't like it as much. I think the maxima lost it styling kick that it had in previous years. From the back though, both the 95-96 and 97-99 look pretty ugly though. I'll agree with that. 99% of the population can't tell the difference between a 95-96 and 97-99 anyway so it really doesn't matter I guess.

I like 95-96s too. The rear I think looks better than the 97+s. It just has more flare, and doesn't looks so boring. From the spaced out individual M A X I M A letters, to the aggressive and higher stance from the rear.

The fog lights on a 95-96 are right on the money too, I love them.

OK let me ask you this. How many 95-96's have "97-99" headlight conversion, trunk conversion, tail light conversion, corner light conversion, bumper conversion, grille conversion, emblum, wheel/hubcap conversion, steering wheel conversion, etc etc etc. Now, how many 97-99's have "retro" conversion that goes back to 96-95?

THE 4TH GEN. STILL LOOKS FRESH EPSECIALLY THE 97-99 SE'S I STILL GET MORE COMPLIMENTS ON MY 97 THAN MY 02 SE. LIKE SOME PEOPLE HAVE SAID LOOK AT THE 3RD GEN THAT IS A 13.5 YEAR OLD DESIGN THAT LOOKS GREAT TO THIS DAY. ONE CAR MAG SAID IT AGES AS GOOD AS **** CLARK. EVEN WHEN THE THE 6TH GEN COMES OUT THE 4TH GEN WILL STILL LOOK FRESH, I PERSONALLY LIKE THE 4TH GEN BODY STYLE THE BEST OF3RD,4TH AND 5TH.

whatever hahaha the maxima DOES NOT LOOK AGGRESSIVE. To me, when i look at my maxima (no body kit) it looks like too rounded up in the front... almost reminds me of a bear or a mouse... lol i dunno it just does. I think a body kit, especially Stillen because of the front lip, adds the sharpness and makes it look more aggressive

No, I said the 95-96 had a more aggressive look than the 97-99. I never said the max is an aggressive looking car. If I had said "hot dizzamm, my maxima scares camaro SSs off the road with its overly aggressive looks", then your "whatever hahaha..." would have been justified.

Because nobody puts older part on newer cars unless they are forced to finacially.

I think the 97+ design will look better longer than the 95. Maybe its the fact the paint looks better now, or the fact the front end on the 97+ looks better IMO because of the line in the grill. I think the 97+ SE rims are also very attractive. I don't know...I just like the way 97+ looks, so for me, it won't get old for a while. It's such a good overall design....I'm quite happy with the styling.
BTW, who else thinks the rear end on the new Avalon looks incredibly fugly?

True but honestly, does anyone put older parts on the car because they're cheaper? Both 95-96 and 97-99 are great cars, but I think more people would agree with me in saying 97-99 is more stylish.

Some people don't care that much about their car or don't have the money for preference. Sure more people would agree that the '97-'99 look better, but then again there are more people that own them.

Or because they made way more of them. Production increases each yeah and it was made for 3 years as opposed for 2.
