Bee's-in-a-can
as everyone already knows.. stillen is loud and annoying.
I have the entire stillen exhaust from the y to the mophler. (exc. Random-cat).. anywhere from 2500-3000 RPM's produces the infamous "bees-in-a-can" noise which at first i didnt mind and was willing to look past because of the HP gains. but lately it's just gettin to me  and this girl i just met said she won't even ride in my car again.. so i say the hell with the b1tch; but she does have a point: so my question to all of the exhaust experts is: Will replacing my stock b-pipe eliminate this noise completely.. and if so will the HP loss be dramatic, or ever so slight it won't be missed?.. IYO please dont respond with "GO DO IT YERSELF AND FIND OUT a$$HOLE stuff either".. this is a forum thanks |
Replacing the muffler with stock one will make it much quieter, and maybe eliminte the sound. It might just be ur Y pipe w/ that bees in a can sound, id try replacing the muffler w/ stock and seeing if that fixes it. You will prolly lose about 2-3 hp, but it takes about 15 to notice the difference.

i have bees too..
i replaced my cat with a straight pipe and it has gotten bad..my exhaust sounds like a deep hondas.. i gotta get this fixed |
damn bro that sucks.. ur max is damn sexy lookin though too

its more or less then y-pipe causing the bees in a can sound IMO and making your system louder only makes the bees in a can louder. You can either send the y-pipe to the manufacturer to fix or u can turn everything else stock and it will sound a little ligher wit the bees in a can

You can either send the y-pipe to the manufacturer to fix or u can turn everything else stock and it will sound a little ligher wit the bees in a can so i took it to meineke and talked with the one of their top mechanics and he said thats just how my engine sounds, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the muffler/baffles.. i had called stillen to ask about a return on the muffler; which i could still do, but i doubt it's the muffler too. As of now i'm gonna try the header-wrapping the flex joint and see how that goes. anyone know anywhere i can get cheap header wrap?.. cheapest i've found is $58.00.. but i dont need that much |

He suggested one of those straight-through/canon type mufflers (like the cyber ones).. so i took it to meineke and talked with the one of their top mechanics and he said thats just how my engine sounds, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the muffler/baffles.. i had called stillen to ask about a return on the muffler; which i could still do, but i doubt it's the muffler too. Bees In The Can
Send your Stillen Y to Warpspeed and have them replace the flex section with a lined quiet one.
Then just use your stock muffler and you should be ok with noise. |
here are some options
1)as said, get the flex section replaced 2)get a random tech cat - they quiet things down a little 3)lose the stillen muffler - they sound horrible IMO, have you thought about getting a muffler from a 5th gen SE 4)header-wrap may help a little, but some people are worried it will cause rusting because it will get wet. |
I second looking into Tom's suggestion.
hah, I love it how it becomes an "I must fix" problem when some girl won't ride in your car anymore because of it. j/k :) |
It does get your attention......
