Hey - I was just wondering -
Will the 1156 bulb fit in place of the 1157? if so, that seems like the easiest way to upgrade wattage of the corner lamps next to the headlight. Am I wrong about this? anybody know?

I'n not 100% sure, however I beleive that a 1156 is a single filiment bulb and the 1157 is a dual filiment. I beleive that a 2057 is a brighter version of the 1157. Maybe someone with more bulb experience can comfirm this.

Re: i got 1156 on my car

1156 is a single filament bulb while 1157 is a dual filament bulb. They are not interchangeable. :(

i say buy that 2057 bulb to get the look you want. The other thing 1157 is dual and 1156 is single, cannot be done!! without changing the socket.

1156 bulbs will work fine. take the bulb and file down one of the nibble, and it will fit in the socket. works perfect. and no need to rewire and solder.

Who to believe?

I want to make the corners whiter\brighter to match my headlights (went the inexpensive route with the Sylvania CB's) Sounds like just putting in the 1156 bulb will be easier than doing the rewire. Some post say 1156 will work, others say no way it will fit. Anyone out there who has actually put the 1156 in and it worked for them? For those that say it won't work, what is the reason? Any help appreciated before I go out and spend the money on the bulbs.

just file away one nibble on the 1156 bulb and it will fit. done on my 97se working fine and lights bright.

1156 works

i just did the thing benny said and it comes out nice....very sweet and the corners are brighter...one problem is it runs pretty hot but no problems yet...i ran it all day today and nothing yet. just clip off one with a nail clipper and sand down with sand paper. i just don't know if the amp for the fuse need to be redone....it's running on 5.5 i think

tgonza1057 Jan 7, 2001 01:53 PM

i used a flathead to hold the soket open while i put it in it works

WhteMax Jan 8, 2001 02:30 PM

It should work just fine, the 1156 bulb is 27w. if you re-wire the 1157 bulb is 8w/27w, so you just wiring up the 27w filment, same wattage, what can go wrong?

whats the best to make the side markers match the brightness now the corner bumper lense?

breaux124 Jan 9, 2001 08:00 AM

Filing off the nibble on the 1156 lights should work, but aren't the nibbles there to secure the lights into the housing? Doesn't the bulb have a chance of coming out of the housing then?

you will still have 1 nibble to hold the bulb in. it is still secure.

file one nibble off the 1156 and replace where the 1157 use to be. i've been running it for like 4 days and no problems except that it heats up hot. nothing is melted so i give it a 2 thumbs up

btw...benny, where u live at....you got good ideas...i live in flushing

what type of bulb to match the headlight. i'm using nokya artic blue 9004 and hybrid 1156 but the headlight still whiter. hey what other mods are on ur ride? i got a 99, any other good ideas?

bigtexan7 Jan 9, 2001 10:43 PM

I tried Benny's little trick today and it worked great!
I just used my 1157s that were in there, turned the bulb around and filed off the nib and voila!
