what's that smell? fumes from y-pipe or.....

5 year old draws from an infant baby?

ever since i had my y-pipe installed, i smell this nasty fume, not as bad as dookie or anything but doesn't smell clean like my car used to. When y-pipe was installed on my old max, it did the same thing, its like fumes from exhaust are going straight into car or in front of car or something. You can't see it but dam you can smell it a lot more now than when i had my stock y-pipe on....is it just me?

Oh and its not crazy strong just stronger than stock

It could make sence seeing as how the removal of the precats will allor more exhaust to flow out of the entire system. Also do you have any other "higher flow" mods like a cat or muffler?

Is it possible that before the accident of your last one you were in need of a tuneup or anything like O2 sensros that would make the emmisions stronger? And now it just seems the same with the addition of other exhaust parts you have changed from stock?

same thing happened to me...but here's my theory..

2 pre-cats were removed therefor, air = not cleaned...car smells lke crap, but only when the car is cold...once it gets warmed up, the smell goes away...i.e. once car warms up, the 2 pre-cats no longer have effect on the exhaust (except reducing the flow)..

does that make sense?

good.

Did you clean out the Y-pipe before you put it on? maybe there was a packing popcorn thing in the tube... I did a whole exhaust on my Max a few months ago.. New Y pipe, new Cat, new B pipe and new muffler.... The system smelled, much like every other exhaust I have ever put on but it died in time. How long has the pipe been on? It took me a few weeks before the smell started to die down, and It was a daily driver to work and back every day at that time. I'd say give it some time and see if it calms down. Also try and tightening the bolts around the headers and cat. Are you sure all the seals are tight?
Don't know what to tell you
Good luck either way

Worse comes to worse just cram one of those pine tree fresheners down the throttle body. It will run through the exhaust and out the muffler, this will makes your emmisions smell nice and fresh. Alsoby cleaning out the exhaust you gain +5hp.
