Bearing Problem Clarification

yes i have searched. i still have no clue about this bearning problem with 4th gen 5 speeds. my daily driver has 160km on it and im changing the clutch next week and figure if there is a potential tranny problem i can avoid than i will be proactive about it. If anyone can give me the part number of the bearings in question and some more info on the problem i would appreciate it. the search function didnt tell me anything except that there is a bearing problem with theses cars

thanks

It wasn't all 5 speeds that were affected by bearing failure. Don't tare apart your tranny if you don't have to.

If you've got no leaks from your axel seals and your axels have no excess play in them, chances are your tranny was shimmed correctly from the factory and your bearings are just fine.

If you replace your bearings and don't reshim your tranny correctly, you could be facing premature failure of YOUR OWN WORK!

i guess its safe to say that by 160km's if it was gonna leak it would have started. There is absolutly no leaking as of now so i guess i got a lucky one (knocks wood)

160km's = about 100K miles with no leaks, I'd say your in the safe zone!

My tranny never leaked, but when I opened it up for a different project, the bearings were shot.

I have 141k miles on my car and it JUST started leaking. I really doubt it was the shims or my bearings wouldda been shot a long time ago. It's probably normal wear and tear... i hope. Just be on the look out for that whining sound when u're in 1-2 gear. Good luck
