got 'em on...eibach/kyb agx's
finished putting them on the 96 I30t last night. Everything went REAL smooth. Easier then my J by about an hour. The ride obviously got stiff, almost too stiff. I've got the settings on 2/3 so I'm guessing it'll just be a week or so before it all softens up a lil. I already have one lowered car with stiffened springs and it's not as tight as this is. STill like it though. Dropped real nice. More then I initially expected. Although the measurement is irrelavent I can get 3 fingers in the front and 4-5 in the rear.
One thing does concern me and I'm going to contact KYB about this. On one of the front struts, the top mounting bracket with the 3 bolts that bolts on to the body...everyone's noticed that the strut piston and this bracket are toothed to fit only one way right? well on the passenger side this is striped. I can freely spin the mounting bracket on the strut and the piston doesn't spin by hand. When turning the main nut that holds the spring compressed the piston does spin. So basically the tooth is not doing its job anymore. I can't tell which part caused the striping but both the piston and the OEM mounting bracket have wear from it. Had to do some extra work to hold the piston still while tightening that nut but I gotit to work eventually. I don't think the the fact the piston can spin will damage the strut and I doubt it will even turn that much anyway when in use, what do you guys think? This was hard to explain in words so if you need clarification just let me know. |
Is your I30t a stick? Just wondering.

You need a new strut mount. It's an OEM part, cost about 20 bucks. They do tend to fail from time to time. The hole probably got rounded off from the previous strut not being tightened correctly. That piston then begins to slowly move around and it rounds off the hole.
You had the AGX's installed in your car prior to installing the Eibachs? Now the AGX's keyway is rounded off slightly as well? I wouldn't worry to much about that. Just get a new strut mount and snug the nut down with the piston lined up in the keyway as best as you can. It wount go anywhere once it's nice and snug. Tom |

Tom Thanks for the help, I'll try to just get that new piece and slap it on there. |
