I know I dont really need shocks but if i can keep the same springs with my rims it will save alot on money i just want to know if it will look stupid my friend has the same car as me with 17's and lowered 1inch and it looks good i gess im cheep

Dave B Dec 26, 2000 08:59 PM

Yep, it does look really weird. Of course, the 2k Max also looks weird with the 17s and no springs. Same goes for the Mustang GT and Cobra.

I have 17's on mine and this pic looks silly. It doesn't look that bad. But I am saving for some springs. It really depends on what you like. I think that it will be fine if you are like me and can not afford springs right now. Just my 2cents

I have 18"s and no springs ;) I'm going to get springs, but I want to get Konis and H&Rs so I have to wait to get the cash.

Thats just my opinion, thats what I did and was very happy with it. To me it looks better :D

ny96max Dec 26, 2000 10:48 PM

YES!!!

vbxmaxima Dec 26, 2000 11:02 PM

I'd get the wheels first (w/ good tires).
Good traction should be priority.

I went with the wheels first then the springs myself.

Yes ...I thought it looked a little "elevated" :)
with stock springs...but I still resisted until
I could get both the shocks and springs -
why double the work? ya know what i mean?...

Weasel Dec 26, 2000 11:09 PM

I agree with vbx, get the wheels first. If nothing else, new wheels and tires are the biggest hit to your wallet, and after that the shocks and springs will seem easier on the account balance :).

MaxRod33 Dec 26, 2000 11:22 PM

The 17's will look kinda weird without the springs, BUT it will still look alot better than stock 15's in my opinion. It will be bearable, but eventually you will want to get the springs and shocks to get rid of that damn Maxima wheel well gap. So go for the wheels, and then get the spings later...that's what I did.

I bought these wheels in November, and took them off about a month later in favor of snow tires. When I put the wheels back on in the Spring I will be purchasing H&R's and Konis.

I don't think it looks BAD, just not as good as it can. If you have an oppertunity to purchase wheels that you can't pass up, get the wheels and then springs at a later date.

GregP Dec 27, 2000 06:44 AM

I don't think the car looks weird at all. I have 17's with stock springs and struts and to me it looks fine.

I have pictures on my site at http://grprete.jnet.net

IMO it all depends on your choice of rims and what kind of driving you do most (city or highway). 17-inchers with chrome rims, for example, look way too ghetto-blaster for me.

Thats what happened to me..... I got a good deal on my wheels, so springs/shocks got put on hold. Shop around and see what kind of deals you can get. If you find something you can't pass up go for it.

I feel the same as most of you guys. I bought the rims first because I had a plan. The next step is the aero kit to see how the car looks and how low the kit would be.Then the Eibach springs and Tokico struts and shocks

SWEETSOUND2001 Dec 28, 2000 01:11 AM

i got my 2000 17" se rims with tires...rims were brand new, tires had 4400 miles...for $750..beat that...i will never lower my car because the ride quality is too important to me, id rather buy an addco sway bar, s/c, or a y-pipe rather than drop the car and lose a lot of comfort. unless there is some miracle setup that retains stock ride quality after 1.6-2.0 inch drop. anyone know of one?
Heres a pic of my Nissan XTERRA!!!

Thanks. I belive the correct name for the color is Neptune Blue, but don't quote me on that. It is a stock color from Nissan for at least '97.

Yes, those are Monsoons... 17X8 w/ Nitto 555's. I got them for $650 a while back, and just couldn't pass them up. Springs in the spring!

SweetSound - Where did you get the SE rims for that price...I asked a few dealers a while back, and the best price I got was $400 a wheel, with no tires! They look great!

P.S. - For winter right now I have the stock GXE wheels on. Sweet Steal!

Here we go again (GHETTO-BLASTER)Please Define what you mean. My car is far from GHETTO. It's very clean as a matter of fact & very well maintained. I do use my Maxima for Highway and City driving. It's not used for track racing but I do let it rip on the highway on occasions. Please watch your ghetto comments like you said it's your choice and I think CHROME looks rich not ghetto.

I agree, Greg. My Maxima with stock springs and shocks looks alright to me. More importantly, the ride quality is already firm enough for my taste. At this point, I'm unwilling to tolerate a harsher ride for the sake of looks.

nismo2020 Dec 28, 2000 02:08 PM

rims and springs

i got 18" rims on mine with eibach springs. i would defitnetly get the springs soon after the rims. to this day ppl still ask me when am i going to lower my car.

:fro:

tgonza1057 Dec 28, 2000 08:42 PM

hey

thanks for the advice

BrianV Dec 28, 2000 11:23 PM

CKNY I just swapped my eibachs out for ST's and unfortunately the ST's didn't lower my car that much, but the ride is exactly like stock. I have Tokico shocks.

tgonza1057 Dec 29, 2000 10:24 PM

hey

were can you get good rims for 700.00 w/ tires

SINYMaxSE Dec 30, 2000 09:32 PM

you know...

i always worried about all the things that factor into getting new rims, especially about how they would look without getting the car lowered, i've seen a few Max's with 17's and they look good. yeah there is a little gap, but the way i see it ride quality isn't sacrificed and that is worth it, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A BODY KIT!!!!!! having the bodykit seems to make a huge difference. there was a car at the recent brooklyn meet and that car looked tight running without being lowered. i think it was beige or silver, don't remember. it didn't need to be lowered in my opinion. besides how low do you want to go? after a while high speedbumps and potholes will take its toll if the car is too low. I mean we don't want to get too ricey with the lowering, a few months ago i saw a hella lowered civic crack its sideskirts going down an entrance to a mobil gas station...just not for me i guess. In my opinion get the 17's don't lower the car and then get a bodykit. or get a set of struts and springs from a 95-96 SE i believe they were about an inch lower than the stocks of the 97-99's and i think someone did that swap here.

Jules
