Another N/A auto in the 14's

Went to the track to day and was very happy with the results!!
Times went like this:

1) 15.0462 @ 91.25, 2.3350 60ft
2) 15.0282 @ 91.03, 2.2951 60ft
3) 14.9442 @ 91.59, 2.2848 60ft
4) 14.9937 @ 91.57, 2.3005 60ft
5) 14.9690 @ 91.00, 2.3064 60ft
6) 14.9604 @ 90.83, 2.2828 60ft

It was around 40 degrees outside with a pretty hard head wind out of the north. I changed from a Ractice intake with heat shield to a JWT intake in a hybrid set-up. I'm using the PR CAI piping to bring cooler air from the foglight hole up to the hole in the end of the JWT filter. I took the filter out of the Ractive set-up and put just the heat shield down in the foglight, facing out of the hole to "scoop" the air and help it up the the filter.

It feels great to finally get into the 14's. I've spent almost an entire year running 15.01's-15.05's. I was running on my 17" Enkei RS6's with 215/40/17 Falkens. I've got a set of B/F Goodrich Comp T/A drag Radials but the last time I tried them I ran horrible. They're about 4-5 lbs. heavier (a piece) than my 17" set-up, so until I get some lighter rims to mount them on I'm not going to use them. I'm trying to decide on my next "big" purchase. Either a high stall T/C or the NX kit. Either way, the D/R will be needed then.:D

get a high stall T/C and if you don't have one get a transmission cooler as well. :)

I'm running Don's VB mod with a Hayden 403 tranny cooler. I'll probably switch to the B&M cooler before to long. I like the idea of the cooler not cooling the fluid unless it needs to.

Those are some very good times! Congrats. Your are as fast as my best time. But, I have the MEVI installed now :) ;)

Wow, great times! congrats... :D

Sonic Nov 24, 2002 04:46 PM

So you have the VI?

is that what the B&M one does?

Hell yeah!!! Way to go Travis. I'm hoping the weather will hold out for racing next Sunday. What's the temp cut off at Mo/Kan? I really want to see how my car will run down there compared to KCIR.

Congrats Travis...I knew you could do it, just a matter of time. It definately feels great when you first do it. Maybe some of these 5 speeds guys will learn to look out for at least some of us now. btw, I noticed you mph didn't increase much with the VIM...any thoughts on that? Did your 1/8th mile mph increase at all? Your dyno is very high for an auto, so you have the power there, but it just seems odd? Didn't you say one time that you thought your ECU was pulling timing or something? Once again, congrats!

he had a strong headwind....that should tell all right there.

So do you think a 10-15 mph headwind will take a good lump off your mph??

Cause that is "ONE" of my excuses for the last time I went to the track! ;) :p

Yes.

The B&M's have a valve that only lets the hot fluid pass through the fins to be cooled.

I'm not sure what the actual cut-off is. Probably around 30-35. I'm sure we were getting close to it today. That wind out of the north was bitter cold. It probably dropped 10 degrees from the time we got there at 1 to the time we left, around 3 or 4. I'll see if I can't find out for you.

I've thought the mph thing was wierd ever since I've had the VI installed. I'm making 16 more peak hp with the VI, and I'm able to hold that all the way through the gears. I'll have to dig up some old slips and see if my 1/8 increased and by how much. As far as the timing goes, I've been having to put 93 octane + octane booster in my car to keep it from knocking. I'm in the process of running a can of BG44K through it to see if carbon build-up is the culprit. So far, so good. It hasn't been knocking that I can tell and my base timing has been staying at 15 on my Techtom. I hope that's all it is.

Sweeeeeeet! That's awesome Travis! I knew you do it sooner or later. First Charles then you.

Dave- When you go down there can you get the stock motor mounts from travis for me? hes giving me his old ones so i can fill them w/polyurethane.

It's a Kansas/Missouri thing. We make more power with the VIMs, but our MPHs stay the way they were with the USIM  It frustrates the hell out me.

I noticed something wierd.

Usually after a day at the track, my passenger door has rubber all over the bottom half of it from burnouts. This time, the passenger door was clean and the driver door has rubber all over the bottom of it. Anyone know why this would happen?

My driver's side is always the one that spins...maybe your tire pressures were slightly different??
