What's the difference between the 95/96 cat back and the 97+ catback?

I've searched for "exhaust length" and "cat back length", but I still can't find any real info about why there are two different cat-backs for the 4th gen. Is it possible to put a 95 cat-back on a 97? I sort of remember reading that one version was a little longer, but I'm not positive. Thanks for your help. If you prefer, you can tell me the correct words to search for.....

i think the difference is that the 95 & 96 have the o2 sensor in the cat converter where as the 97-99 has the o2 sensor in the catback..the pipe right behind the cat converter.

The rear bumper is longer on the 97+ maxima's, a couple inches
I think. So if you put a 97 catback on a 95 the tip will stick out
too far. If you put a 95 catback on a 97 the tip will sit up under
the bumper. Not sure if there's any diffrence in O2 sensors.

You guys are both right, but the most important part is the o2 sensor. There wont be a hole for it and that will mess up your car if it isnt installed there.
