mpg poll and type of gas used to get the mpg
#2
OK.. I have always gotten 17mpg
for the first 5-10 tanks of gas I have put through my auto, but that is the first 5-10 tanks. I just inflated the tires properly and am driving a lot less leadfooted and I can tell by how many miles that I am getting alot better already... I'll let you know when I fill up

milage
In the winter I get 20mpg with mixed highway/city. All highway turns out about 26mpg in the winter. All city is about 17mpg. In the summer all city is about 20 mixed is about 23 and all highway is about 28-29. I have a 95 SE auto.

I get 22-26mpg average w/ 91(can't get any higher b/c of the high altitude) octane gas @ Chevron driving pretty out of hand usually......what method do you guys use? When the gas light goes on there is usually 2 gal. in the tank cuz I put gas til it filled 1 time and the gauge on the gas pump read sumomething like 16.3 or something and knowing our baby has a 18.5 gal tank, it all usually sums up.

Mileage
The mileage I get varies, and it has A LOT to do with driving style. You gotta be smooth on the gas. Just don't get into it, and do around the speed limit and you will get great mileage. If you drive any other way, and get worse, you can't really complain. This Maxima sees only Mobil 93 octane. The last few tanks of which have made the car EXTREMELY fast. I have no idea what happened, but it just rips, and it was 10 degrees outside.
The best mileage this car has ever seen was driving up to Maine (from CT) with my dad at the wheel. He set the cruise at 65 and ran the A/C the entire time. We filled up just before getting on 95S to go home, and I calculated 31mpg. But halfway home we decided to stop again, to take advantage of cheaper MA gas - we got an astounding 33.4mpg. This was with A/C, and SOME 75mph non-cruise control driving. It can be done. You gotta be smooth.
I've gotten 25-26 driving 85-95. But I haven't since been able to do that. Here's the secret - I had a girl in the car, so my driving inherently smoothed out. If you stop stabbing the gas, passing people, racing, etc. (i.e. all the things that are fun in the max), you'll get several mpg worse than you could otherwise. Personally, I think it's worth it, but it's nice to know what the car can do.
The car has been getting crap mileage lately though. I have no idea why, but the trip odo says 220, and the needle is halfway between 1/2 and 1/4 remaining. That must be like 20 or below.

I use 92 octane
I used to get an average with mixed driving about 28 mpg. I now drive two cars and can't drive the Maxima as economic as before...I accelerate faster, enjoy a few quick starts, but the mileage dropped a bit to 26 mpg.

Mileage
I always use Shell 92 Octane. When I started watching my mileage a few months ago, I estimated it at about 17-18mpg.
Mid december I drove up to Berkeley from San Diego, and recorded 27 mpg.
On the trip back I recorded a stellar(for me at least) 28.3 mpg!!
Sooo..ever since then (about a couple of weeks) I've been a little...err...easier on the throttle and I've been averaging about 22 mpg.
Not bad I suppose. but heck, if I was concerned about mileage I wouldn't have bought a midsize sedan with a premium-slurping 6 cylinder

cold
You guys need to understand that when it's so cold out your car is going to get worse milage overall. Think about it...the "choke" of modern day cars stays open longer to feed the car more gas to help it run smoother and warm up faster. The oil is thicker b/c it's colder thus making it harder for the engine to turn, thus requiring more gas/energy to turn it. Everything else that turns is cold, thus making it harder to turn, thus requiring more energy etc. It's friction and the cold only makes it worse!
I fill up at Shell, Sunoco, BP and even Marathon and have never had a problem yet..knock on wood! I am happy with my milage at 20mpg in mostly city. On the highway in the winter I get about 26 which isn't bad, but I wish it were about 28.
Oh well. Stay out of the throttle and try to understand that the cold weather is going to drop your MPG.

17-18 sounds low. My 95 and 99 max get/got (Sold the 99) 22-29 mpg. I drive moderately and shift around 3000 rpm in town and keep it under 80 on the hwy. Unless I'm really aggressive or really babying it, the car gets 25 all day long-with air, w/o air, 87-91 octane, cold/hot...yadda, yadda....
But both cars were 5 speeds.

I only get like 15-16 mpg and i dont abuse to power...only once in a while when i m in mood to have some fun but other than that i drive around the speed limit. i dont know why i get such a low mpg...anyone has an idea???? i have 95 gle auto with 45k miles on it....would getting tune up help??? please reply......

tuneup?
Well...you don't HAVE to do it till 60k. However, the plugs are so easy to change its unreal. I would try that and your fuel filter and see what comes of it. Also...if you are the person that lets the car warm up in your drive before you take off...STOP it! Thats going to ruin milage too. Other than that I'd have to say its your driving style if the car is running fine.

I usually get about 26-27 mpg with mixed city and highway driving. On my last tank I got 27, and that was cruising between 85-100 mph on the highways along with some city driving. My best average was just over 31 mpg on a trip to Vegas. I fill up with 91 octane from Chevron.
