taking car in for checkup...anything I should tell'em to look at?

Hi guys,

I got a recall notice about the alternator problem on the 1997/1998 Maximas. I'm gonna be taking my car in to get it checked out sometime this week. I remembered reading something about a possible problem that Maxima's had with their transmissions (on manuals) or something that can make it go bad if not treated early. I forget exactly what the problem was and forgive me for my vague descriptions. But I was just wondering what other things I should have my car looked at/checked out, and maybe replaced while I'm there.

Thanks.

that "vague" thing you're talking about is the differential bearings. They're known to go bad around 60k-ish miles. You know you have this problem if you hear a "whining" sound in 1st and 2nd gear.

How expensive is this repair and what happens if you don't fix it???

I think I have a "whine"...
