do u still get u'r car serviced at the dealer??
 

since my car has over 81k on it I don't think it's necessary at all to have the dealer doing the service instead jsut take it to a local mechanic and have them do it. Do u guys take it to the dealer??

do it yourself, nothing hard about it

for most things, i agree, but sometimes air tools, overhead lifts, welding, and computer diagnostics sure come in handy. I am sure i am forgetting a few things too.

I do it myself. There is a wealth of knowledge on the forum which you can tap into to learn how to repair your own car. I take some of the money I save by doing it myself and buy additional Toys - I mean tools. Over a period of years I have gotten a lot of tools which makes the job even easier. Plus you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself and knowing it is done right!

When I don't have the time or the tools, or the time to buy the tools, i go.

If you have the time, try learning how to do your own car maintenance. If you do not have the time, taking it to an independent Nissan specialist is a better bet than the costly dealer.

Everyone on the BBS says do it yourself is better. I agree that I have learned a lot while working on my own car, but I also understand that it is not right to look down on those who prefer to take their cars to a mechanic if they do not have the time to do the work themselves. So if you want to save the time, nothing wrong with taking the car to the mechanic or the dealer.

even though the dealer is costly, IMO it's worth the extra $$ since they know what the problem is and can fix it right the 1st time

In addition to the help of fellow .org members, they also know every nook and cranny of our max's very well :D

I would agree with your thread (the part about them knowing what the problem is and usually being able to fix it right the first time), but it seems like every time I go to the dealer to have something fixed they are not very honest with me... like, they will tell me things are wrong that are not wrong... they'll tell me things are wrong that I didn't even bring the car in for. Know what I mean? Where as if I would take it for a second opinion to another mechanic (to say... Firestone - I trust the mechanics at the local Firestone) they would say the problem the dealer said is there is non-existent. So, you really have to watch them because they can be crooks.

(just an example in my case would be: nearly every time I go to the dealer, they tell me that either my front or back brakes are looking 'pretty worn,' but my brakes are brand new. I had the same thing with the struts on my Altima. Crazy dealers, I'm telling you...)

I used to go to the dealer to have them diagnose the problem,
and then get another mechanic to do the work...now, I don't
even do that -- DEALERS ARE ALL CROOKS.

I do it all myself. I'll let the dealer change my antifreeze or flush my power steering system. Maybe change my belts too when thats due. It's just a PITA to do and they can deal with gettin rid of the old fluids. Leave the nasty stuff to them, I'll do the fun stuff myself. :cool:

I for one dont think they will work on my car and even if they did they would probably tell me that i have to fix everything and they would probably try to put the car back together and not tell me so i just do it me self, its much easier that way.

i barely have time to get on the org.. so i'm gonna let the dealer do all my stuff... my car is about to reach 60k.. so i'm gonna let the dealer check/change all oil.. hopefully it won't cost much.. cause i'm only 18.. and my job pays for my mods only.. not fixin'.. hehe... my dad is suppose to do it.. but he's been lazy... cuz of the holidays... so i'll pay for someone to do it... i'm lazy too!
