OBD ll

I have a 1995 GLE. It has a OBD II plug on it and I can call up codes with a code reader. Although OBD II started with the 1996 cars some 95s were equipped with it. The CARB (California air board) says the 1995 Maxima is not fully OBD II compliant and the emissions sticker under the hood says nothing about being OBD II compliant. My question is, does anyone know what part is compliant and what is not compliant with OBD II on the 95 Maxima. Thanks

Sorry I have entered this request twice by not knowing any better. Bobaber

Many of us, after many battles and wars, have come to the conclusion that almost every 4th Gen is OBDII. Although, some websites and some sources mark ALL 95 Maximas as OBDI. BTW, why is your Maxima in need of checking the codes with a code reader? Just pull the codes from your CEL using the Stickies at the top of this forum.

I just bought the car and I have a code reader so I plugged it up to check it out and ended up having to replace the knock sensor.Bobaber

Which code reader?

I got the same tone as Ramius when I searched about it - that the 95s were just as II compliant as say, the 96s.

I've been thinking about the product from carchip.com when I have some spare change. If anyone found there was any area that the 95s lacked obdII compliance, I'd like to know.

I have done some research in the Nissan service manual and my code reader manual and found that the 95 maxima only supports 7 of the 11 available monitors of the OBD II system, it does not support secondary air, air conditioning, heated catalyst or evap system. Also it only has about 48 generic codes and 8 manufactors specfic codes that are available. There is over 500 generic codes available with a fully compliant OBDII system. I assume that on the 96 and later everything is available. Please don't take this as an expert opinion because I am certainly no expert.
