One more reason I'm glad I did the tranny conversion

I was reading in another thread and came across an irrefutable advantage of manual transmissions over automatics. Two words: push start.

you could push start it, but I read in the FSM that push starting is not recommended.

I wonder why? I guess it's good not to make a daily habit of it, but it's good to know you can if you have a dead starter or battery.

All you do is stick it in neutral.....get up some speed pushing it and slam in gear and wham....it starts up. I dont think its good but if thats the onyl way to get er' going then its nice to have the option!

I hope you didn't mean to just shove it in gear without using the clutch.

Wrong. You have it gear, like 2nd or so and with the clutch pressed down, you push the car. Once you get enough speed, you basicly dump the clutch.

If you have it in neutral, you have to go the extra step to put it gear. Not a great idea when your friends are pushing the car and wondering WTF is taking so long to pop the clutch. LOL
