Any help would be appreciated. I live in upstate NY and although I thought I would not need them, I might have to get them now. Currently running 225/50-16 Dunlop SP5000s.
Thanks.

I've got Blizzaks MZ-1s on my '98 SE right now. Its the same tire size as my stock Toyos (225/55R-16)but mounted on 16" steel rims. In hindsight I should have mounted them on my stock SE rims and bought new rims for my summer tires because each tire weighs like a ton! I'm taking them off tonight and remounting my Toyos. As for the ride I like them, though the car feels heavier (steel rims). The tires are wider (7"?) and they are right up to the fender. Purported to be great on ice and I agree, although we don't get much snow on the west coast of Canada, we do get the occasional cold snaps.

Just go to BJ's and get some BF Goodrich WinterSlaloms... They're very good... had em' on a FWD escort I had... that thing was unstoppable in snow (just 2 tires!)
and had em on my RWD TBird with studs.... only 2....
just get two. Blizzaks wear too fast
Get Slalom's wintermasters or winterfires u'll be good

I've been running 205/65/15 Michellin Artic Alpins for 2 months now. Excellent traction through packed snow and crossing tire ruts. Makes noise at higher speeds and when wet though.

On my 99 Max i use the Dunlop Graspic snow tires. They are under $75 each and they work great for me. I got to give them the test when NJ just had over 2ft of snow (at least in my town there was). I drove all day through the damn thing and i had no trouble at all. I was doing better then SUV's were and i didnt get stuck. And I'm sure from being in NY you know how bad roads get when you get a lot of snow.
