Wondering how many of you have the K&N flat panel filter and how you like it, pros and cons of it (if any).
Also would like to hear from those of you with cone (popcharger?) intakes and pros and cons of it as well.
Sidenote: by pros and cons I mean any performance gains vs noise, etc.
THANKS GENTS!

Jay

Well, I have both. I had the K&N panel filter in for 2.5 years. I just installed the JWT Popcharger on Sunday. The panel filter doesn't add any horsepower, but it did give better throttle response. Also, they last forever, so it will pay for itself eventually. I don't remember it being any louder than the stock filter. The Popcharger has been dynoed to make a few horsepower (4 or 5, I think). It is no louder than the stock airbox under part-throttle and normal cruising. But when you hammer the gas, the engine has a nice roar to it. I like it. Oh yeah- the Popcharger looks cooler, too.

I have the panel filter in right now. The advantage with the panel filter is that it's reusable. Hp gain will be next to nothing. Perhaps it flows better?

The pop charger does look nice as Micah points out. It also draws in hot air (bad) and add's noise to the car (bad in my book). It is also suppose to add 5 hp or so. I'd bet that you gain that on the upper end but loose it on the lower end. Push either way.

If you want power get a CAI from Place racing, get cold air, less noise, more power. The best of all worlds.

I went with the panel filter because I needed a new filter to begin with (stock filters = $15) and the reusablity works good for me. Also they come with a million mile warranty. If you go this route pick one up used they will be a ton cheaper and just as good. Btw... I picked mine up used for $25 with cleaning kit.

CAI vs. High flow

I don't know if any of you follow the yahoo maxima club, but about a month or two ago their was a big discussion regarding the cold air intake vs. the stillen. The conclusion was that for the large difference in price, one does not get that much more HP's. I forget what else was discussed, but the Cone intakes are a good deal. As far as sucking in hot air, that will usually happen when the car has stopped for a few seconds (like at a stop light). But once the car is moving some air from the outside does flow into the engine bay. I currently have the panel filter, and noticed no impovement or gains. I plan on getting the JWT Popcharger soon.

Thanks

Think I'll consider the Popcharger now. Thanks for the input. Nick- I don't follow the Yahoo Max club anymore, they've got a helluva 'clique' thing going on there....
