What do you torque the intake manifold to?

My haynes manual says to torque the upper manifold bolts to 13-16 ft/lbs

Looking at the manifold from the front of the car the bolts are numbered
4......3
..1 2
The FSM says to tighten in numerical order to 13 to 16 ft. lbs.

Why does it matter what order you tighten the bolts?

I'm not sure exactly, but I figured it was worth posting. It makes sense to me to torque the center before the ends. A similiar method is used to put the valve cover on.

Because of the way you're seating the manifold to the gasket. It's very imporant you torque it the way Nissan says.
