I'm on the way to doing a 5spd swap.. clutch and shifter info?

As far as clutches go, is it just ACT that people have been really happy with or is there another clutch out there?

And as far as the shifter goes I know a lot of people have issues with it still being really notchy and not shifting into gears too smoothly, does anyone cut their stock shifter? I would probably want the shifter to sit about 4 inches off the console, so a considerable amount lower than the stock shifter and aftermarket short shifters.

Oh and my auto tranny is forsale, it has 27,000 miles on it: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=202488

As far as I know the ACT street clutch kit is the best alternative to the stock clutch. Everyone recommended it to me so thats what I got when I did my conversion and I love it. Also, I have a stillen sts and it's not notchy and I haven't had problems shifting. Hope this helps. Good luck with the conversion. :)

Sounds good, I appreciate it... How low is the stillen sts?

I have the pacesetter one. I love it. It was pretty cheap too. Its adjustable also. ACT here as well. Love that too. Grabs great. :)

The Excedy Stage 1 clutch is 36% grip over stock, the ACT is 40% - but the Excedy costs quite a bit less.

There was a GD on it I think a little while ago - for $75 or so savings, 4% doesn't seem like much to me.

The ACT clutch is just a modified Excedy anyway.

Hope that helps.

No, the one on Ebay is the OEM replacement....not the "Performance" Clutch.

The Stillen STS is pretty nice (also notchy), but it's as long if not longer than the OEM shifter. The SMC/Pacesetter is adjustable, and you can cut some off if you like to make it even shorter. I would advise going this route. It'll be difficult to shift with that short of a shifter though, and it'll wear synchros faster but I don't think you're really worried about that anyway.
