What % tints should I get?.....help
Tomorrow I have an appointment to get all my windows tinted. including: 4 side windows, rear windshield, and sunroof. All this for $95!
My question is: What % should I get them? I don't really care about the laws or anything like that cause everybody's got them around my area and cops don't care.
post pics of your car with tints and what % they are. Thanks

When I got mine done here in TX - I went for the legal 35% on the sides and 20% on the rear. I AM concerned about the laws here since I travel on the Interstate a lot and State Troopers are known to hand out tickets for illegal tints.
That said - the guy did the tint for me said that the 20% and 35% block about the same amount of heat. It had me confused for a bit too - but supposedly blocking heat and blocking light are 2 different things.

I got 15% smoke on the rear and all sides, plus the sun/moonroof. Looks good to me. (Sorry, no pics, yet)
Visibility out the sides is slightly challenging when looking for street signs/ house #'s at night, but other than that, I like it. I just drop the glass whenever I'm in that situation. No biggie.
I have a tan interior, so the tint doesn't appear excessively dark, although you can't see in the car during the day or night.
I also got my windsheild done in a 35% clear UV tint, which helps reduce excessive light from the windshield bouncing off the tan interior onto the inside surface of the side tints and causing reflections that could further hamper visibility.
(If I had a darker colored interior, I may not have bothered with this). In FL, as in TX though, the sun is just too damn bright some days!
Btw, as you might guess - some shops won't touch the front glass, although it can usually be done "off the receipt" for the right price.
If the local law doesn't enforce, I say go with 15%. I had concerns about visibility b4 it was done, but having driven a couple weeks with my setup, I'm very happy with it now.

Like with every other mod you wont be happy unless you go all the way..
"Dude, I want 17's soooo bad"
*fast forward a month later when you have em*
"Dude, I want 18's soooo bad"
"Dude, I want a Eibach drop soooo bad"
*fast forward a month alter when you have it*
"Dude, I want a Sprint drop soooo bad"
Recommendation..If you're feeling a little lawless than get limo. I have mine at 5% and I couldn't be happier. Hell, I'm even debating having my winshield tinted at like 70-80% to make it even more difficult to see me.

some thoughts on tinting percentages:
shops typically do 50%, 35%, 20%, 15% and 5%.
with 50%..
in the daytime: completely see through, practically useless.
in the nighttime: see through as well, although a bit darker than haivng no tint, obviously.. still fairly see through.
with 35%..
day: fairly clear.. on a very sunny day, they are very see through.. still give something though, looks good.. but see through..
night: fairly dark, you can still see shapes inside the car but can't make anything out..
with 20%:
dark in the day, seems like 35% at night.. can't make anything out but can see shapes.
at night - feels like limo tint.. pretty much can't see squat, unless you are parked facing a street light
15%..
a bit darker than 20%.. dark in the day
night.. dark as ****!
5%:
day.. can't see jack.. but on sunny days, possible to see into the front doors if enough light is falling inside from the windshield..
night: can't see jack.

tint
i think have different % tints on diff parts of the car is pretty fooglie..i went 35% all around. looks nice.. but most people want darker.. so if you want a dark tint, go like 25% all around. whatever yu do..jsut get it all around... i dont like the darker tints cause after a while, they turn that purplish color..

does that $95 tint job come with a lifetime gaurentee?
that's assuming the place you goto uses the quality tint.
For example, 5% in PA is basically painting your window black. yet, a buddy of mine was on vacation in Florida, and decided to get his windows tinted because it was cheaper down there. He supposedly got 5% tint done. When he came back, he compared his 5% to my other friend's 15%, and they were equal.

To the person who started the thread..be careful about 95 dollar tint. Guarantee it's the cheap stuff that turns purple after a while. Plus make sure you get Metallic film for the tint if you want it to look good.

I'm looking for tint
I'm looking for a tint that best matches the color of the car. I have a sage mist green car (i think, i know its color code FS0) so its sort of metallic green ish blue ish stuff. I've been leaning towards 35% because it is the limit in MA where I spend most of my time. I do travel to NY (parents house), but someone said the legal limit there is 70% so screw trying to comply with that. Anyone with a sage mist green or whatever its called and some tint that matches it nicely?

You don't mean color tinged tint do you cause that's just horrible. I saw a lime green S10 that had neon/lime green tint and it was just wrong. If you mean how dark to go so that it looks best with green, think of it this way.
BLACK goes with everything.

is 190 a good price for a 35 tint on all 4 doors and 20% on rear(using only 1 sheet) and then 20 or 35 on the sunroof. its guaranteed for 10 years, which is longer then i'll own my max. any ideas or suggestions? or a place that will do it cheaper?

This is a quality tint shop that uses quality titanium layered tint film. This shop has contracts with several dealerships and guarantees their work. The job was under $100 because tinting is so common in South FL and there is much competition for the work.
Strangely, the same job was priced at $270 in So. CA before I moved from there. Pricing is usually just a function of what the market will bear in a given area, all things considered.
