What's the best catalytic converter to purchase?

Curious.... if my cat is indeed dead and needs replacing, which
cat would you guys recommend? the high flow from custom-maxima?
another brand... etc etc.... :)

Can't say I noticed a huge difference in power, and I didn't notice ANY difference in noise.

However, for less than half the cost of a performance cat, it makes sense. ;)

Actually you would get a nice little gain from the test pipe (3-4 HP) but if you are looking for a cat the will give you (it gave me about 1hp peak) hp try the Random Technologies High Flow cat it is a great cat for around 150. Brian

Do not buy the Random Technologies cat. While I was in the market for a new cat I heard numerous reports of people hating the RT because the inner honey-comb section broke loose and rattled around. I did not listen to them and bought it. 6 months later, rattle rattle rattle. I'm buying a test pipe.

How do you guys pass emissions testing with no cat? Do they do the full roller-test in your state in addition to the regular idle-speed tailpipe probe?

I second the carsound cat selection. It is a high quality cat that is often used in torquey applications like the maxima. It has good flow characteristics and is a good value.

Okay, what about this letter I saw on the maxima@lumiere list that was written by Mike Kojima? Makes me wish I kept my stock cat...

I was victim of the RT Cat falling apart after 3 weeks of use.


And...my buttdyno tells me my car pulls stronger thru the whole rpm band with my old stock cat on. Of course the RT Cat might be better.....perhaps mine was faulty from the get-go despite looking fine and being new?.....
