I don't think my y-pipe did anything =(

i just went to the track yesterday and didn't run what i was expecting to :(

last year i ran at the track with the EXACT same mods/weight except for the ypipe

here is what i got LAST year:

60ft 2.404
330ft 6.491
1/8et 9.849
1/8mph 73.65
1/4et 15.084
1/4mph 93.37

and THIS time (everything the same, plus a ypipe and mobil1 synthetic engine oil)

60ft 2.305
330ft 6.341
1/8et 9.652
1/8mph blank
1/4et 14.811
1/4mph 93.32

now i know my time is better with the ypipe, but thats only because i got a better launch than last time. and as i've heard, every 0.1 on the 60ft is good for about 0.2 on the ET. that being said, i haven't made any improvement in performance, just my launch.
last year i hit a trap of 95mph max with intake only, this year i could only do 94mph with intake and ypipe.
can anyone fill me in on the discrepancy?

Y pipe can't help your launch

i didn't once say the ypipe helped my launch
as the title says...im saying the ypipe didn't help anything

the launch was better because i guess i can drive better since last time.

join the club, look at my pathetic times....

but dude, look at your 60fts, if you pulled off what i did (a 2.1) you could feasibly be at a 14.6...Id say it helped a bit, just your launching could use some work..

Were the temperatures and weather conditions the same?? Hotter weather = slower time, could have possibly nullified that Ypipe.

Yes, makes sure you always check these things, when humidity is high sometimes its not worth going to the track. Hard part about being in Florida is its always high. When humidity is around 80% here I run 9.5s in the 1/8 with just Intake, Y pipe, and Cat Back exhaust. Last time i went, was 100%...and i couldn't break past 9.9s

brand

what brand y is it ?

BadKarma99-4spd Apr 28, 2003 08:40 PM

also keep in mind that manuals arent exactly known to run consistant times, which is why you find that most drag cars are autos.

also 14.8 is an sweet time

if your thinking of getting one, go with a budget y... simple and inexpensive :) hehe

last time i went was 6 degrees celcius, this time was 12

that doesn't help the 60' at all. cold ground and no traction.

99Maxima5spd - 2.1 just isn't possible at this track.
my 2.30 wasn't even anything to complain about. keeping in mind i had the crappiest tires there (goodyear rsa's) that 2.30 was the best launch out of us 5 4th gens. this track isn't considered a "fast" track to me. :)

Ceasars Chariot - its a budget ypipe (not that it makes a difference)

BadKarma - i know i might be a bit inconsistent. last time i went it was pretty consistent though, like 90% of the runs were within 0.1 seconds, the others being misshifts.

but why wouldn't my trap speeds increase at least? i was expecting +2mph but it was pretty much the same.

Dev;

Your pre- y-pipe run was 6 degC colder than the post- y-pipe run.

All other things being equal, the temperature difference would negate any gains from your y-pipe. If you can get an early morning run with a temp of 6C, I think you'll see the difference the y-pipe makes.

Jamsan May 1, 2003 07:17 AM

quicker 60's generally have lower trap speeds.

99Maxima5sp May 1, 2003 09:56 AM

i wish i could pull a 2.3 and still manage a 14.8!!

Im still wondering why i trapped so low...
