KYB - AGX's vs GR2's

I am really looking forward to dropping my max and I'm really unsure if I should go with the gr2's or the agx's. I dont know how often I will adjust the agx's and i dunno what the gr2's will ride like considering i can't adjust them, so they are hit or miss. Any info will help me. I am probably going to go with H&R springs, but i have been considering "Progress" and maxspeed as well. Like I said ANY info helps. Thanks in advance!

EIBACH - KYB AGX

3 Finger Gap Front
3 Finger Gap Rear

Just got KYB AGX's yesterday. Drove home on 2/4 much better ride and handling for me than tired SE supsension. Im now set at 3/6 going to hang there, really great handling and just waiting for the springs to settle !

O yea, that was the good thing about the agx's you can adjust them to your liking. and thats got to be worth something ?

I think you can get away with using GR2's with a softer spring like H&R's. You won't be able to adjust your stiffness setting, but if you don't autocross and you dont have wildly varying road surfaces where u drive, you should be ok.

Go with progress and and agx's. LOve it.

:sprint:

GR2's are a nice firm strut and will work very well with H&R or Eibach sport springs.

I bought some GR2's for my sister's Max and she loves the ride.

ChristheNite May 19, 2003 09:46 AM

OK Now i suppose the question is - who wants to sell me their H&R's?? ..seriously though.

MONKEYMAX May 19, 2003 09:55 AM

Yep Go With the PROGRESS Springs, and the AGX's! I love mine! Oh the best price I found on the progress springs was from www.ptuning.com seperately. Go to www.cattman.com for the best price on the combination.

I've been happy with my AGX/MaxSpeed setup.

The MaxSpeed doesn't really drop the car, looks like maybe an inch max to me. Most people can't tell my car is lowered. However, with the AGX, I have not bottomed out except when hitting dips on the freeway over 110mph or so, and the ride has been fairly good. Handling is much improved. Maintaining the suspension travel definitely helps ride and cornering, especially if there are bumps in the corner.

The the GR2 should ride similar to the AGX in the 2/4 F/R setting. I feel this setting is slightly under dampened for the MaxSpeed under higih speed, but normaly driving, controls wheel movement and spring energy really well.

I just had the same setup installed, and I agree, it looks stock. Handling is great, tho. What would give the best drop, a different brand of springs or coil-overs?

Well I just inspected my car for the hell of it and I guess the previous owner put some KYB GR2's on the back! I need to buy a set for the front and NOW I am thinking about springs - its between H&R and Progress. Opinions now that i am getting GR2's?

Eibach ProKit + GR2 = Great all-round combo. (IMHO)

OK, with all the talk about the various springs, how are GR2s with stock GXE springs? I'm getting the impression (from all that I've read about the different combos) that GR2s are stiffer than Tokico Blues and Koni's are the stiffest for the 4th gen cars (With 3rd gens, stiffest was Koni, then Toks and then GR2s--had a '91 with Blues) Am I getting the correct impression?

I just installed gr2's this past weekend as a replacement for Tokico?/H&R setup. The gr2's ride much better than the Tok's which were completely worn out after 50K. Plus, you can't beat the price of $257 shipped!

Where did you get them for that price?

redlantrn May 20, 2003 06:05 PM

Taylorautomotive.com Received them 4 days after ordering.

I do not recommend Progress products. H&R springs + GR2 will give a definitely improved ride without a large loss of "comfort."

99MAXSE-L May 20, 2003 07:55 PM

how about Sprints + Gr2???

What should I do.

I have the B&G/KYB-AGX combo and I hate it.
The ride is way too rough and bouncy.
I am going to get some H&Rs to replace my B&Gs but...
Should I keep my AGXs or get GR2s?

Supposedly, GR2s behave the same as AGX set on 2/4 Front/Rear. Therefore it could be possible to set AGX to a softer setting than GR2.

yea man i feel your pain. over bad roads the ride with B+G/AGX can get ridiculous. Thankfully when its warm out it soften's up a bit. I used to think that it was the AGX's that were causing the harshness, but after reading all the posts about how GR2's are equivalent to AGX's set on 2/4, I guess it's just the B+G springs that are harsh. I guess its to be expected with a 1.6 inch drop.

I would get H&R's but I don't think I could stand a wheel gap bigger than what I have now.

Also, I have my AGX's set on 1/1 right now  I was going for the softest ride possible. They might be underdamped for the B+G springs, so I might change around the settings a little.
