JWT + MEVI people... don't set your MEVI at 5000rpm

I've come to the conclusion that setting it at 5000rpm is not a good thing... unless you like going slow.

Went to the track wednesday night, running my car at FULL STREET WEIGHT. I no longer have a CF hood it got destroyed, I did not remove any seats, and I had my stock jack in the car as well as all the stuff from the trunk. I was feeling lazy. Here are my findings. I'm going to make them short because I'm heading back to the track in a few minutes.

First 4 trap speeds set at 5000rpm, in order:
These runs were made letting the car sit for about 30 minutes between runs.

95.98
96.16
96.56
96.14
Average = 96.21mph

Last 6 runs, MEVI set at 5300rpm, in order:
These 6 passes were made within 35 minutes of eachother. Needless to say they were hot-lapped. Remember these are full interior passes, with my car weighing 120lbs more than it did when i was trapping just over 100mph, and at a MUCH slower track in 30 degree warmer conditions. It was 75 degrees and humid as hell, greater than 85%, pressure was super low at 29.72 and falling before i went to the track.

98.00
97.83
97.40
97.57
96.92
98.04

Average = 97.63mph

I didn't get to try any other settings. I'll post more info when I get back, I have to leave now though.

I'll be watching this thread. Have fun at the track. I'll be going to the garage to set my VI at 5300 now. =)

Good info Neal.

What made you try 5300? Just that you thought you should be trapping higher?

You ran your 13.6 with the 5000rpm switch over right?

interesting interesting keep us posted

Neal-

Good info. I noticed that when the temps go up, the VI needs to be set for higher engagement. I'm assuming it's because of the lack of power due to hotter and more humid conditions. I may I noted that a 5000rpm switchover was too low when the temps were above 70 and that 5300 got me my best ET/MPH. My best so far in 85 degree weather and 45% humidity (not too bad) was a 14.451@96.9mph with a 2.20 60' with a 5300 switchover. My first few passes only netted 14.5-14.6@95mph with a 5000 switchover. What REALLY ticked me off about that 14.451 was that my best ever was a 14.451......@99.5mph with a 2.31 60 foot in 50-degree weather!!!!!!! I really don't plan on going to the track anytime between now and August only because 80+ degree temps and high humidity won't get me a best ET/MPH.

how would this effect a car without ECU?

I messed up when typing my post it doesn't really have anything to do with the ECU so people with stock ecu should also look into this.

At byron when I was trapping 100+ I had it set at 5300. Then I switched it to 5000 my next time at the track.

Mike-in the heat and humidity of summer, no, I won't be seeing 100mph traps again til fall, if then even. My car is quite a bit heavier now, not having the CF hood and about to have heavier brakes on it.

I asked this question once and someone told me the tranny type doesn't matter. I have mine set at 5300 now.
