Poor man's HAI

I'm a student on a really tight budget...Does sticking a cone filter in place of your stock air box really help? If so, how many estimated horsepower? How does it sound? Any info would be helpful. Thank you in advance

It doesnt help that much hp wise, but most people have them because they look and sound better. From the poor mans HAI you could expect maybe 1-3 hp. The Intake will growl though.

I don't think that or the hybrids are good at getting cool or even warm air in the engine. I checked on mine yesterday after driving for about an hour in high 70's/low 80's weather and the steel filter ring burned skin of my hand. I know that gets hot because of the engine, so I felt the air going into the filter and that was SCORCHING hot. My idea is to get 2 flexible, aluminum coted, 4" wide pipes(they are of like foil or something but covered in aluminum to keep away heat, they use them in homes I think for cooling systems. Think of a 4" wide vacuum hose) and run them to the front bumperup to the intake...

Want something that will cost you nothing? Do the hacked stock air box mod that me, DaveB, StreetReaper, and maybe a few others have. Basically, you take the lower portion of your stock air box and drill holes all around it like me, or you could use a dremel and cut out a small section like DaveB and StreetReaper did. I was skeptical, but believe it or not, it made a difference. There is a intake like growl sound, not as loud as an HAI or CAI, but you can definitely hear it. Pretty nice subtle growl. I like it. Best of all: costed me nothing! :)
