Re: Poll - MEVI screws falling out

I pulled mine yesterday and thankfully they were still there. No loctite was used previously on the butterfly screws, but upon reassembly I used it.

:wavey:

Mine fell out. :(

SLC98Max 06-30-2003 06:45 AM

Mine fell out with no loc tite and I now am rebuilding the engine.

Rebuilding or replacing? Have to found the specific damage that was done?

No loc-tite and screws were still on tight. Will put lock loc-tite on soon though.

Nismo 06-30-2003 09:19 AM

so far nobody had them fall with Loc-tite so that a good thing.

xHypex 06-30-2003 11:48 AM

Why is there no option for stayed in with locktite :P I pulled the cover off of my collector today and my screws/butterflies are in good shape. The only puzzling thing to me is a puddle of oil I found.

It's not enough oil to be worried about, but I still didn't expect to see it.

Locktite - none fell out.

No reports of any of the ones I've sold falling out either.

Good to hear :) You use the strongest color loctite?

I simply used Threadlocker Blue.

I checked mine and they are there and I am using thread locker RED

Also hyype, I do have about the same amount of oil as you and I spoke with jay25 and he has a small amount of oil as well.

I was concerned at first but no longer.

What do you make of it?

JAY25 06-30-2003 03:30 PM

yes I have a small puddle of oil on my manifold as well. I did not use loctite:bonk: Use loctite and learn from everyones mistakes:)

Nismo 06-30-2003 04:37 PM

Im about to check my screws in about 20 min and Ill post what I see. Iilac also checked his but found somethign odd. we'll see

Nismo 06-30-2003 05:56 PM

ok, just got done checking mine out and they are still on there. I used threadlocker blue from the start. Didnt see any oil puddles yet either. I also indexed my screws by marking a line on the screw and on the plate with a sharpie marker, that way I can tell if they moved even a little bit the next time I inspect them.

I always assumed it was EGR crap...which would be perfectly normal.

BSwithTF 06-30-2003 07:42 PM

Used Loc-Tite Red. No missing screws or valves. I didn't use it at first but I thought I'd better and reassembled it with Loc-Tite before I installed it on the car. I'm REALLY glad I did!!!

well that was helpful, why don't you go find somewhere else to spam?

When I got my MEVI I checked all the screws and they were tight. I just had teh screws welded on just in case, it cost like $5 to have it done. The welding looks worse because of the burn't metal.

Wow that some scarey ****... I wouldn't want a screw floating around my manifold then into my block!

How much are these Mevi manifolds?... I gotta get a rebuild kit for my engine and was thinkin of getting better performance parts to replace the stocks. I dont want to use soo much aftermarket, I know the Mevi comes off of Cefiro right?.. Or am I wrong? (My Nissan/Inifiti knowledge isn't all that well)

MDeezy 02-02-2006 01:55 PM

coutesy has one for sale $395.

MaximaSE96 02-02-2006 03:32 PM

plus extra parts to get it working

Yep, it looks really bad, but its mostly because of the burns. When I got mine I keep reading all kinds of threads of screws falling out or losening, I believe some of them even had locktite. I still pull the top cover off every once in a while to inspect the valves and make sure everythings still okay in there

1chewabacha1 02-21-2006 06:06 PM

wow.... good thing this thread was brought back up.... I think I'm gonna weld mine this weekend. I've checked mine and it's all still on and tight. Used blue locktite on it when i first got it (8 months or so)
