How about a 95? (*** bit long)

Got a call tonight from a guy with a 95 GLE. I was looking for an SE, but it's Burgandy with a spoiler and I could get new wheels and it'd be close. The thing is fully loaded, in perfect shape. It has 130k miles on it though. I drove it, felt good, suspension felt like it had 130k miles of wear, not bad by any means, but more worn than some. Only thing I noticed was the AT was a little notchy, it shifted hard into 2nd and was somewhat delayed in downshifts, which were a bit hard when they came. I know my last car's autobox shifted really hard into 2nd, and it was just characteristic. Comments?

Just remembered, it's not in perfect shape...the paint on the roof, deck lid, and hood is a little faded (that dull whiteish stuff). Owner said Maaco said it's the clearcoat, and it could be stripped and redone for 180. Price sounds right for Maaco but is it likely that it'll look like the rest of the car afterwards? I'm not a paint/body guy so I have no idea what causes that white fady junk.

What do you guys think about the mileage? It's probably a car I'd want to keep for another three years but not much longer.

The guy wants 4800$. Seems like a very good price to me.

BTW, I'm also looking at a 96 I30 w/64k miles. This Max is way more loaded than the I, the I has a 5sp and fewer miles though. I want to spend as little as possible while getting a car that will last for what I need it. Input ? Thanks!

5 speeds own with a maxima.. but if you prefer auto and the GLE luxuries go for it. if you only plan on keeping the max 3 years. it will serve you fine. 4800 is an awesome price. i bought my 95 5 spd 9 month ago for 6250. with 95k in great condition.

main things to look for when u test drive again with a 95.. wheel bearing.- make slight rights and listen for clicking noising from under the dash area.

knock sensor- i duno how you woulf test for this without equipp.

starter- does it take a while to start up cold. does it turn over a lil bit too many times.

Damn, go for the 5spd I3O.. Those things are rare. You will probably end up getting what you paid for it when you sell it.
