Year to year changes in performance?

Base all of the following on SE 5 spds:

I've heard rumors about the 95 being the fastest 4th gen because of not very tight emission controls? Also it doesn't have OBDII like the other 4th gens do.

Besides the 95, the 96 is the next fastest, and 97 trails not far behind?

Were the 98s and 99s noticibly slower than the 95-97s? Were there different emission controls? Please, give some explainations to whether this is a myth or the truth.

I'm confused

Thanks!
-Chris

95 5 spds own all other 4th gens..!!! hehe.. but i heard the fastest ever recorded stock quarter mile was from a 97 5spd. but in general. 95 are a teeny bit faster cause of obdI and less weight.

according to most websites, they all have the same hp and same weight but 95-96 is lightest. some say its because of lighter bumpers, i say because of lighter rims. 95-96 only years to have 15" rims versus every other year that had 16" and up

but stock wise, 95 would be faster due to less restrictions, 99 supposed to be slowest but i dont know why

I've always read that the 95-96's were faster because they were lighter, and the '99s are supposed to be slower due to the fact that they're more restrictive as far as emmissions are concerned (Cali-spec?).

All and all, there isn't much difference between them.

The 95-96's have ****tier bumpers, and even the 5mph crash tests are enough to convince me to stay away. The '99s don't get a supercharger (IIRC), so that kinda limits my favorites to 97-98.

I lucked out by finding a 5spd '98.

The 99s have swirl valves in the lower intake.
