I drove with the A/C on all day yesterday around the neighborhood doing errands. Last night I pulled into the garage and I shut the car off forgetting to shut the A/C first. Upon shutting down the car made a loud popping/thumping noise, very simmilar to when a plastic bucket hits concrete. WTF. I turn the car back on run for 10 seconds and shut it off with the A/C still on. Again- same thing. I repeat the scenario again, but shutting the A/C off before I shut the car off, and it shurts down without all the ruckus. This morning I turned the car on and put the A/C on before leaving for work to try to see if would do it again, But it didn't. It shut down nice and smooth, with or without the A/C on. IS it absolutely mandatory to shut the A?C off before turning the car off? Ive never heard of anything like that. The noise was quite loud.

i have never heard hte noise, my ac usually stays on when the car is being shut off and i have nvr heard any odd noises

yeah mine does that, i remember reading old post about it. I think it was concluded there was no harm brought to it. I wouldn't worry about it, i do it all the time and don't even think about it anymore. But if the noise is bugging u then just shut the AC off first.
