What's your MPG?

I just bought my car, and I slowly repairing the damage from the last owner. Right now I'm getting 20MPG, or maybe like 19.8. I haven't driven it that hard... Is this normal? I just need to get used to the car, and I think it will raise significantly. What MPG do you guys get?

Sprint Aug 4, 2003 09:36 AM

40

Kevlo911 Aug 4, 2003 09:39 AM

Last weekend I got 23mpg all highway (Buffalo->Syracuse->Buffalo). Around town I typically get about 15-17mpg, and at the track I get like 8-10.

Jatan Aug 4, 2003 09:56 AM

17-18 MPG

WaarrEagle Aug 4, 2003 10:08 AM

17-20 but I get 30 when I go on trips so I am not too worried.

Scooters and smaller CC bikes get up to 80 mpg
Cruisers will get 50 and up..
Sportbikes get from 40 - 60 mpg...

if you are doing 120 - 160 mph on a constant basis.. you get anywhere from 30 - 40 mpg

especially if you are bouncing off redline going down the street to the grocery store.

or if your y pipe is blown and you can hear hte car coming from half a mile.. you have no low end torque and little power in 1st whats so ever and if you start off on a hill you have to ride the clutch or the car will stall..

yes this will also give you 40 mph :)

Or if you push your car instead of putting in 1st gear or in Drive, and you push it for couple of miles yes indeed you get some nice MPG in your car....

MadChef Aug 4, 2003 10:27 AM

95 SE 5-speed, 19-25 mpg

mclarke Aug 4, 2003 10:37 AM

99 SE-L 5 Speed 25 - 34 mpg

Ninos_Maxima Aug 4, 2003 10:43 AM

99 GLE 24MPG City 32MPG Hi Way. I only drive hi-way around here, I dont like to make short trips unless im going to the Internet Cafe!?! Yeah

MAXEJA Aug 4, 2003 11:25 AM

97 - 18-24 round town, 28-32 highway. Its weird tho, if u look at the graphs for fuel consumption from the tank the optimal speed would be low 40's for gas milage.

BadKarma99-4spd Aug 4, 2003 01:44 PM

30hwy 22city

MaxEffect414 Aug 4, 2003 03:07 PM

I get 27 highway and 17 city.
:king:

MaximaRox Aug 4, 2003 04:16 PM

99 GXE 5spd: 20-24 city, 28-31 highway

SuperChris Aug 4, 2003 06:44 PM

99SE-L auto: 23-24, mostly city; up around 31-32, all highway.

update: just filled up; 368 miles on 14.9 gallons = 24.7mpg (mostly city too)
(even after 143,000 miles, baby :D)

hoodedmunkee Aug 4, 2003 07:05 PM

i dunno bout mine.its about 330 miles per tank and i drive bout 50 city/50 highway.

pocketrocket Aug 4, 2003 07:31 PM

I got 28mpg from my last tank fill. I'd say about 60% highway @ 70-85mph, 40% city.

spiff56747 Aug 4, 2003 11:26 PM

23-24 mpg, 80% highway driving, 98 SE 5 speed :nervous:

TXMAX Aug 5, 2003 12:40 AM

97, Just measured 23mpg

Bout 60% highway.

1996_SE Aug 6, 2003 08:31 PM

So why would my milage be lower than nearly anyone else's here with only moderately demanding driving?

Jepht20 Aug 6, 2003 09:29 PM

maybe you need a tune up? check tire pressure while you're at it as well.

Maximus_95 Aug 7, 2003 12:09 AM

i get about 16-17, depending on how i drive.

DJLAX152 Aug 7, 2003 06:57 AM

mod it any

Avg. 23-25 mpg. It must be the spirited driving that keeps the numbers low....and air resistance too.

Actually, car mileage goes down a fair bit in the winter months. I guess it's an Air Fuel Ratio thing. The more oxygen there is, the more fuel needs to be squirted in to maintain that ratio. And since air is more dense in the winter than summer, that would stand to reason....I think. :)

1996_SE Aug 7, 2003 06:29 PM

But the AC nearly doubles the rpm's of the idle.

TonyGotSkilz Aug 7, 2003 06:52 PM

On my old engine i used to get no more than 18 mpg, and when it was about to die i only got 9 miles cause i was running super rich, with the new engine i'm getting 22mpg with a mix of city and highway. On the highway my average speed is 90 with jumps up to 130 and in city i floor it most of the time from every light <Grin>

zealotnyc Aug 7, 2003 07:23 PM

i get 14mpg....it's in for a tune-up right now, getting the NGK Copper's thrown in as well

Jatan Aug 7, 2003 07:29 PM

I got 14 MPG before when all of my tires were at different pressures, but now I get about 16 when I use the a/c a lot and about 18 when I use it a little. Hopefully it'll go up when I finish my tune-up, put in a new knock sensor, and new O2 sensors :D

95maximase Aug 7, 2003 07:51 PM

95 SE with 211000 miles. I get 26-27mpg. I drive 60/40 freeway/street

FLO_BOY Aug 7, 2003 10:38 PM

I've tracked my mileage for over a year now.
I've got my list of mods in the sig below (or, check website!)

in about 14 months, I've averaged 18.2 MPG.

BUT, some caveats:

-- I've had MAJOR MAFS issues, which is why I started to track my mileage.
-- I've recently enjoyed 29 MPG on a road trip going about 80mph the whole way.
-- I started tracking mileage at 171000 KMs.
-- Right now, I have 195 000 KMs.

what I expect as "normal" for my car to be about 21.5 MPG.

take what you will...
FLO_BOY

95maximase Aug 8, 2003 07:09 AM

you guys either have heavy feet or you cars get terrible mileage. I used to get 22-22mpg. believe it or not, after i installed the y pipe I started getting 26-27. But then again my job moved so had to take the freeway more than before. I don't think i could live with 17 mpg.

Jatan Aug 8, 2003 07:35 AM

22-22? You could just say plain old 22, you don't have to repeat yourself :p A new exhaust system would help, but I'm broke and parents don't want to pay for it :(
