I've seen on some car magazines selling some sort of wattage amplifier so that you can use higher wattage bulbs. I have never seen a car with those so I don't know how good they are. I just know I won't get rid of my HIDs until I get a ticket for having them.

First off you buy them before August 15th, law says you can't sell them after August 15th but if you have them on your car and you bought them before August 15th, your fine... one more thing just reaim down and you shouldn't have problems. I just bought a Phillips 8000K K2 HID kit today so I'm happy :D .... but here's a interesting link on HIDs

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...ml#discussions

Kinda long tho but oh well

Mike

sk24iam Aug 4, 2003 03:52 PM

I'm sure you will be able to buy them off ebay.

Spectre Aug 4, 2003 03:55 PM

You will be but it will be smarter to buy them now cause pretty much if you bought them on or after the 15th you more than likely will get a ticket considering where you live at and what kind of kit. Though it could be smarter to stick around August 11th-15th see if prices drop dramatically on HIDs which I doubt but you never know.

Iron Scimitar Aug 4, 2003 04:43 PM

I love my HIDs to death. Good idea about aiming the headlights lower. Everyone hates me on the road after dark. I have Phillips 4100k. I have the link for the petition in my sig.

nismology Aug 4, 2003 04:54 PM

What's the point of the petition if they already have their mind made up??

^ Nope.

Spectre Aug 4, 2003 05:00 PM

I worked for DOT last year and they were planning law where they were going to ban anything "Blue Bulbs" in the IL area. People complainined a lot about it and since no one really came to them with the idea to ban color coated bulbs, not HIDs they kept them. DOT just tries to target the younger group of people such as us so they can make as much money as possible. Plus just a because is a law is going to to happen and has a set date doesn't mean it can't be switched around. Remeber they are trying to blame HIDs because people complain of the glare it produces. If a lot of people have a good explanation why it shouldn't be banned and have alternatives they will think it over again hopefully.

:Police: :Police: :Police:

I really don't understand this banning HID's thing at all, Don't BMW's and Lexus's and Acura's and other cars come with HID's (this is a retorical question cause i know they do) its stupid that you can't buy an after market vs. of something that comes stock on some cars. Also whats the whole idea about banning blue or red lights on your car, I mean if someone is dumb enough to pull over because you have blue headlights they deserve to be robbed. The excuse i heard is because your impersonating an officer? How stupid is that. Thats why i got a ticket for having blue washer leds.... Don't cops have Flashing lights? <shrug> stupidity rules the world.

They are not banning all HIDs, just aftermarket HIDs. If your car came stock with HIDs then you are just fine. They are doing this because most of the vehicles were not meant to use the HIDs in the fist place so don't matter how low you AIM then you'll still blind other drivers with all the glare they produce. Now Imagine lifted trucks with HIDs. I think they are the reason of this ban :D I hate when they pulled behind with their bright @ss lights.

:sprint:

At least somebody knows whats going on here.

Spectre Aug 4, 2003 05:51 PM

It does matter..... having your lights aimed normal with HIDs compared to having it 3 inches lower. I mean there will still be a glare not as big.

Sir Nikon Aug 4, 2003 06:45 PM

Where are they banned at? Where can I get more information about this? I didn't know that something such as this was going to occur.

mforrest100 Aug 4, 2003 07:20 PM

Okay, does anyone know where exactly this information is located as I would like to research it for myself. Thanks. Mike.

Stillnmax Aug 4, 2003 07:34 PM

rewire your fogs so they are independant... this way you can run them with your Highbeams on... improved my vision drastically ....

They are banning to sell them throughout the whole country.... people told me if you buy them BEFORE AUGUST 15 you will be fine. Here is the link....again somewhere in this article explains everything I forget where.

ManualMaxima Aug 4, 2003 09:03 PM

when i had my blue washer lights on i got a ticket for impersonating a officer. YOu know cause all police cars have blue lights on the washers that stay on! He said i can get jail time for impersonating. HAhaha all over little lights. What ****Head.

ManualMaxima Aug 4, 2003 09:04 PM

One more thing, how are they going to know you bought them before then. Do you have to have a recipt? What if you have had them for a year and do not have it. Or how can they tell?

MaxEffect414 Aug 4, 2003 09:10 PM

Well people, I heard that Before aug 15 is fine but then again what is your proof that you bought it before aug 15 and it was installed on the car before that date.

Even if you have a reciept i still think that you will get hassled and have to pay fines.
I won't take the chance and i don't know about other states but since it's in the government thing, I'm guessing it's for all 50 states.

Also stock cars are fine because they have a factory projector or free-form headlight but aftermarket cars with aftermarket parts are prohibited.
:king:

Spectre Aug 4, 2003 09:22 PM

Well I just bought my and will have proof and most people should too since HIDs aren't a $50 product other than that what can I say.

geo1317 Aug 4, 2003 09:26 PM

what if you retrofit projectors from a bmw on your car with HID's, is that still illigal?

Spectre Aug 4, 2003 09:33 PM

No but rather expensive since you will have to do some serius modding to fit them in...but those projectors don't give out a glare which blinds other drivers. Our projectors are not made for HID kits. When you run HIDs in our car it scatters light everywhere which does look neat but blinds drivers. That is why you aim them down and more than likely you'll be fine. One other thing which might not have cops not pull you over since our headlights our two piece having the side lamps bright or dark orange instead of hyperwhite.

ok well i need to buy my hid does any abody to a place in maryland to get them for a good price

Spectre Aug 4, 2003 09:40 PM

Best bet is online... I would recommend Phillips HID kit K2, it's come with Hella ballast which are made in Germany. The kit is amazing and will last you a while from what I hear but is rather expensive. I just bought one but some other alternatives are http://www.redlinemax.com/ or
http://www.angelfire.com/ultra/brightlightz/

LOL, my truck is lifted and i dont even have HID's :)

People flash me every now and then but i feel sorry for the poor people in cars when i get behind them. I always see them adjust their mirror.

Some have even gotten behind me and put thier high beams on! Not that it even affects me cuz their lights dont even come in thru my back window, but i just pull over get behind them and then put my real high beams on, they get the picture.

95emeraldgxe Aug 4, 2003 11:50 PM

another thing is that the bmw headlights arent really blue, they are actually white, its just that the projectors make them appear blue

Kevlo911 Aug 5, 2003 06:14 AM

how bright are the 02+ Q45 headlights oncomming, they are suppose to be hte brightest headlights in hte world

Thier not blue not because of the projectors but because BMWs and all the other luxury cars run their HIDs at around 4000k as it goes higher, 5200k, 6000k etc. their is more color to it while usually in in 4000k you get pure white.

optimus310 Aug 5, 2003 03:47 PM

Actually OEM cars use no more than 4300K. The reason why BMW, Audi, Honda S200, etc, Have those super purple colors is because of the projector. The light they .put on the ground is pure white. The 8000K HID puts a blue light on the ground and they look blue from far away. Same with the purple ones. Thats why the more color you have the less of light you have on the ground. Blue tends to fade on rain and on dark roads, and purple is usually more white but the more color you get you will get more pink glare and the road signs will appear pink

Spectre Aug 5, 2003 04:12 PM

Not always true.... usually when you get the cheaper kits with a lot of color you won't see well in the rain and you won't light up the road as optimus stated but if you get the better brand kits and pay more you can have both worlds.
